INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

Today, 11 October, we join the world in marking International Day of the Girl Child.
Every girl deserves to learn, to lead and to live free from harm. Yet across Nigeria and Africa, too many girls still face barriers like child marriage, violence and being kept out of school, which take away their potential before it can bloom.
At Africa Faith and Justice Network Nigeria, we believe justice for girls is both a matter of faith and a matter of rights. When a girl is educated, protected and heard, her family, her community and our whole continent grow stronger.
Today we call on parents, faith communities, schools and leaders to:
*Educate her.*
*Protect her.*
*Empower her.*
Her voice matters. Her rights matter. Her future is our shared responsibility.

CHORES OR EXPLOITATION?

Not every child helping at home is a victim of Domestic servitude. Helping with age appropriate household chores can teach children responsibility and cooperation.

But Domestic servitude is very different.

It happens when a child is placed in another household to work often without proper pay, education, adequate rest, free time, or the freedom to leave.

A child should never be treated as household property.

Every child deserves education, protection, rest, dignity, and a safe environment to grow.

Letโ€™s learn the difference. Letโ€™s speak up. Letโ€™s protect children.

CHILDREN ARE NOT HOUSEHOLD LABOUR. THEY ARE CHILDREN.

Domestic violence goes far beyond physical abuse. It often manifests through emotional, psychological, verbal, social, and economic abuse, leaving lasting scars on individuals, families and communities. Children are among the silent victims, frequently experiencing fear, trauma, disrupted development, and violations of their fundamental rights when exposed to violence in the home.

This webinar will explore the hidden forms of domestic violence, their impact on survivors, and the profound effects on children, including how such experiences can affect their well-being, education, safety, and right to grow up in a nurturing environment. Participants will also gain insights into practical strategies for prevention, protection and community action.
