Civic Nation Empowering people to take action can change culture.

What’s one small action people can take right now to build community? 🎤

We asked Civic Homes leaders from across the country to share their thoughts. Here’s what they had to say. 👀

We’re hiring! 📲Civic Nation is looking for four part-time, entry level team members to support our democracy work:

🔍 A Research Assistant to track election law across all 50 states,
🎬 A Video Assistant to bring it all to life on IG, TikTok and YouTube,
🤳 A Social Media Assistant to power our Party at the Polls social content,
📩 And an Email Assistant to power our Party at the Polls email content.

If you fact-check your group chats, color-code your spreadsheets, and treat misinformation like a personal enemy, there’s a role for you.

These are part-time, remote roles running through December 15, 2026. Share with a mentee, recent grad, and your favorite chronically online friend who’s looking for a new opportunity.

Deadlines vary by role (August 16-26). 🔗 See open roles and apply: https://civicnation.org/careers/

You don’t need a law degree to strengthen our democracy. (But if you have one, we need you too!) ⚖️ 🗳️

This National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, we’re recognizing the everyday people who make free and fair elections possible: the poll workers checking IDs, running ballots, and keeping polling places running smoothly.

If you’re looking for an impactful way to get involved this year, sign up to be a poll worker: www.powerthepolls.org/civicnation

And for our lawyers in our network: election integrity needs you too! ⚖️ Through We The Action's Democracy Legal Defense Network, we’re recruiting volunteer attorneys to educate voters on their rights, fight voter suppression, and support local election officials — before, during, and after this year’s midterms.

Civic power looks different to everyone, so we asked our summer interns to define it in their own words.

This summer, our team at Civic Nation has the pleasure of working alongside young people who bring fresh energy, sharp thinking, and real passion to the work. Swipe through to hear what civic power means to each of our interns, and why their answers are a reminder of why this work matters in the first place. ✨

To our interns: thank you for your curiosity and the perspective you bring to our team! The future of civic engagement looks bright. ☀️

To each American, patriotism might represent something different. But throughout our history, there’s an unmistakable pattern — patriotism has been practiced time and again by Americans coming together to overcome challenges, both big and small. 🗽

Whether we are increasing voter turnout with When We All Vote, empowering student leaders through ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, training local changemakers with Change Collective, providing pro bono legal support to communities under attack with with We The Action, or standing up for student survivors with It's On Us, at Civic Nation, we believe patriotism and civic participation go hand in hand. 🗳️

Patriotism is something we all can claim. It shows up in registering a new voter, volunteering legal support to nonprofits, and bridging divides within our own communities. Let this 250th anniversary be a reminder that a more civic nation is ours to build, together. 🇺🇲

Picture this: You’ve spent the summer grinding through two-a-day practices. You missed the registration deadline for a class you wanted. The person you’ve been dating wants to “take a break” because they’re studying abroad. Your parents are reminding you to keep your grades up. Suddenly, the pressure feels overwhelming.

For many college athletes—especially young men—this is reality — and it can contribute to anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. Nearly a quarter of male student-athletes report experiencing anxiety, yet many don’t feel comfortable seeking support from mental health professionals. Without the tools to recognize when they’re struggling or the confidence to ask for help, these challenges can affect athletes both on and off the field.

That’s where The Playbook from It's On Us comes in. 💪

Since 2024, more than 3,000 college athletes have participated in The Playbook trainings, gaining the skills to support their own well-being, build healthy relationships, and become leaders in preventing sexual violence on their campuses.

Through the program, athletes learn how to:
⚽️ Navigate breakups and life transitions with the support of their community.
🏀 Recognize the signs of healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships.
🤽 Identify and respond to trauma, both in themselves and their peers.
🏒 Have meaningful conversations when a teammate or friend is struggling.

This Men’s Mental Health month, It’s On Us reminds us that supporting young men goes beyond helping individuals. Meeting young men where they are builds positive locker room environments, resilient campuses, and a generation of leaders that look out for one another and address the roots of sexual harm.

What happens when nonprofit organizations have to spend more time defending their work than doing it?

Many organizations focused on equity are facing the prospect of legal risks like expensive lawsuits or losing their tax-exempt status. But with the Nonprofit Legal Defense Network, We The Action is stepping in to help nonprofits overwhelmed by legal threats with a community of more than 55,000 lawyers ready to provide pro-bono legal support.

Civil rights laws haven't changed, but racial equity nonprofits feel exposed to lawsuits because of the Trump administration's conservative interpretation of the law.

Where can you learn ASL, show off your Mario Kart skills, and meet new people on the dance floor — all in one place?

In Jackson, Mississippi, that place is Briarwood Arts Center, a vibrant Civic Home led by Stephen Brown, a 2026 Change Collective fellow.

Stephen is helping his neighbors build community by learning new skills and creating opportunities to meet and gather across shared interests. Meaningful connections are critical at a time when more than half of American adults feel isolated and left out, and two out of three Gen Zers want to belong.

With support from Change Collective, Stephen is building a model with the Briarwood Arts Center that can be replicated across Mississippi. His impact is already expanding: this past year, he took ownership of Riverside Community Coffeehouse in South Jackson — a co-working café and ice cream shop that doubles as an entrepreneurship hub for teens, helping them discover their purpose and build roots in their community.

This is what rebuilding civic life looks like.
