Every child deserves not only care and protection, but also the opportunity to grow with dignity, confidence, and hope for the future.

The Bhutan Foundation is humbled to continue supporting the children at the Childrenโ€™s Half-Way Home, led by Nazhoen Lamtoen, through the provision of daily essential resources and support for their skilling program.

From meeting everyday needs to creating opportunities for learning and personal growth, this support helps children build independence, self-confidence, and practical skills for the future.

The skilling program provides children with meaningful opportunities to explore their abilities, learn valuable life skills, and engage in activities that nurture creativity and self-reliance. Alongside this, access to daily essentials helps create a safe and supportive environment where children can focus on learning, growing, and simply being children.

We remain deeply grateful to all partners and supporters who continue to stand alongside us in creating brighter opportunities for children and young people in Bhutan.

Together, we can continue building communities where every child is valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Mountain communities of Soe and Lingzhi are building stronger and more sustainable futures together.

In collaboration with the Thimphu Dzongkhag Administration, Department of Tourism, Traditional Medicine sector, National Centre for Organic Agriculture, Department of Forests and Park Services, and the Department of Livestock, a capacity-building program engaged 125 participants across the highlands to strengthen homestay management, herbal groups, and yak cooperatives. The initiative also supported homestay certification assessments and discussions on upcoming Charzhithang campsites and long-term economic development plans for the region.

From welcoming travelers into family homes to strengthening local livelihoods rooted in culture and nature, these efforts reflect the leadership, resilience, and vision of highland communities.

Supported by Bhutan Foundation through the Promoting Ecological and Community Engagement (PEaCE) for Snow Leopard Conservation project, this work helps create sustainable livelihood opportunities while contributing to the conservation of fragile mountain ecosystems and snow leopard habitats.

๐Ÿ Tiny pollinators, extraordinary impact.

Bees do far more than produce honey. They pollinate crops, protect biodiversity, strengthen food systems, and help sustain the delicate balance of our ecosystems. A healthy bee population means healthier farms, stronger harvests, and more resilient communities.

At the same time, beekeeping is creating meaningful livelihood opportunities for rural families, turning sustainable practices into income, resilience, and hope.

Through the Bhutan Foundationโ€™s Small Grants Program (SGP), the Chhumig Drukmo Beekeeping Group in Bumthang is embracing modern smart beekeeping technologies to strengthen honey production and improve hive management. With support from the local gewog agriculture extension office, the community has already installed:

๐Ÿก 18 Flow hives
๐Ÿ 200 PET feeding systems
๐Ÿ“ฆ Modern bee Nuc boxes
๐Ÿ“ฒ Four smart hive monitoring systems are being piloted to track bee colony health and productivity

As the honey production season begins, the group is looking forward to harvesting honey by the end of July 2026.

This initiative is about more than honey. It is about empowering rural communities, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and protecting the pollinators that our environment and food systems depend on.

By investing in bees, we are investing in both nature and people.

Over the years, Tendruk Central School and the local community have worked tirelessly to improve access to education for children with diverse abilities, from supporting accommodation close to the school to establishing an inclusive kitchen where children can build daily living skills.

On 10th May 2026, the Bhutan Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, officially launched the construction of a new accessible and inclusive facility. The initiative will also support learning resources and teacher capacity building to strengthen services for children with diverse abilities.

โ€œWe have been facing shortage of classrooms as the number of SEN students continues to grow. Many children have been learning together in shared classrooms, even though some children need quieter and calmer spaces to learn effectively. With these new classrooms, we hope to create a more conducive learning environment for our children,โ€ shared Tara Devi Giri, SEN coordinator, Tendruk Central School.

๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ ๏ปฟ๏ปฟA two-day workshop brought together experts and partners to explore the use of Planet satellite data and imagery for Bhutanโ€™s environmental and climate goals.

Organized by the Bhutan Foundation in collaboration with the National Land Commission Secretariat (NLCS) and supported by Planet Labs Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), the workshop brought together government agencies, technical experts, and development partners to explore how earth observation technology can strengthen environmental management and climate action in Bhutan.๏ปฟ๏ปฟ

Participants explored practical applications of satellite data in:
๐ŸŒฑ Forest and biodiversity monitoring
๐Ÿ’ง Water resource management
๐ŸŒ Climate resilience and carbon accounting
๐Ÿ™๏ธ Sustainable land use and urban development

Led by experts from Planet Labs PBC, the workshop focused on building national capacity to effectively use satellite data and imagery in support of Bhutanโ€™s environmental priorities and long-term sustainability goals.๏ปฟ๏ปฟ

The workshop also helped identify priority institutions and potential use cases under Project Centinela, Planetโ€™s global digital public good initiative supporting scalable, data-driven solutions for conservation and sustainable land management.๏ปฟ๏ปฟ

โ€œI believe this will be highly beneficial for mapping priority biodiversity conservation, forest resource management, as well as land-use classification and zoning for national projects,โ€ said Mr. Sonam Wangdi, Chief Program Officer of the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTF).๏ปฟ๏ปฟ

๐ŸŒฟ Through innovation and partnerships, Bhutan continues to strengthen its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.๏ปฟ๏ปฟ

The Bhutan Foundation, in partnership with the Australian High Commission, India and Bhutan, has launched a Multimedia Functional Program at Changangkha Middle Secondary School, creating new pathways for students with diverse abilities to build practical, real-world skills.

Through a fully equipped multimedia lab, students will explore areas like graphic design, photo editing, and digital content creation, expanding opportunities beyond traditional vocational training.

By combining functional learning with creativity and technology, this program supports greater independence, confidence, and future employment pathways for diverse learners.

Looking ahead, the Bhutan Foundation, in partnership with the Sherig Bhutan (Ministry of Education and Skills Development), will expand similar programs to other schools, including Tendruk Central School, strengthening alternate learning pathways and broadening opportunities for students across the country.

This initiative reflects a growing commitment to inclusive education, ensuring every student is better prepared for life beyond the classroom.

05/02/2026

On the birth anniversary of His Majesty the Third Druk Gyalpo, the Father of Modern Education, we honour the teachers who continue to carry his vision forward in classrooms across Bhutan.
๏ปฟ
๏ปฟIt did not happen overnight. It took years of learning, unlearning, and commitment from educators who chose to do things differently.
From a time when awareness and resources were limited, to classrooms where inclusion is practiced every day, this journey has been shaped by teachers who adapted, persisted, and believed that every child belongs.

Today, because of them, more children are learning, participating, and growing together.
We honour the teachers who continue to create space and who make inclusion real in every classroom.
