CHEVY CHASE DC DAY 2026 COMMUNITY-WIDE CELEBRATION SEPTEMBER 19!
The annual Chevy Chase DC Day celebration will be held at the Chevy Chase Commons area, 5601 Connecticut Avenue NW, on the grounds of the Library and the Community Center (CC) and nearby on Connecticut Avenue. As in past years, this event is organized by the Chevy Chase Community Association - with the support of ANC 3/4G and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation. It will take place on Saturday, September 19 from 1- 4 p.m. and will include the following free events.
Activities from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Commons
• Face painting, balloon twisting, a juggler, a caricature artist, a bounce house, plus other activities
• Chevy Chase Artists (Ch/Art) kids’ art activity
• Free ice cream, popcorn, and other snacks
• Fire department will hold CPR demonstrations
• Pick up free books from the Friends of the Chevy Chase DC Library
• Meet representatives from local community groups and businesses.
Chevy Chase DC Day Special Events
Come kick off the festivities with Chevy Chase DC local Ashley Newman-Owens at 1 p.m. on the basketball (BB) court. Ashley will start things off with a 20-minute cardio dance workout that prioritizes moving joyfully to a variety of music styles. Wear sneakers and join in; no dance experience required!
Ballet Elite is an award-winning ballet school located in the Chevy Chase Community Center. They will perform at 1:30 p.m. on the BB court. Director Lynn B. Welters and the Young Dancers are featured in the new documentary Making Their Pointe, recently presented at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
My Gym Bethesda Chevy Chase will host an energetic fitness activity for kids of all ages. Join us to warm up your muscles, play active games, and try out our dynamic group activities. 2:00 p.m. on the BB court.
Uriah Breunig from Infinity Martial Arts will get everyone involved in a martial arts demonstration at 3:05 p.m. on the BB court.
Mayor Muriel Bower, Ward 3 Councilmember Matt Frumin, Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, Council Chair Phil Mendelson, and At-large Council members will also be attending the event, from 2:30 - 3:15 p.m. in front of the library.
New event! National Capital Astronomers (Guy Brandenburg)
If the weather is clear, local astronomers will safely show you the surface of the sun, using a commercial Hydrogen-alpha scope and a hand-made “Solar Funnel” on a hand-made telescope. If it’s cloudy, you can check out some of the home-made Dobsonian scopes and learn about how they are made. Join them on the grassy area on the Connecticut Avenue side of the library, from 1 – 4 p.m.
Events in the Community Center (CC)
Northwest Neighbors Village (NNV) is sponsoring a vaccine clinic in the CC from 1- 4 p.m. Flu, Covid, RSV, and Pneumococcal vaccines will be offered by our partners at Giant Pharmacy. Come early - vaccines will be offered on a first come, first serve basis. The Vaccine Clinic will be offered inside the Community Center. Please bring your health insurance card. Sorry, Kaiser insurance is not accepted.
Edward Pratt, a CC instructor will lead a tai chi class at 1:15 in the CC gym.
