Lifeline at work, present at home. šŸŽ§šŸ™

For 911 dispatchers, the calls demand absolute focus. They navigate the chaos, guide responders, and serve as a calm voice in a dark world. Yet, scripture reminds us there is a time for every purpose under heaven—and when the shift ends, God calls them to a different ministry: their family.

It is easy to let the stress of the console follow them home. However, loving one's family well means intentionally shifting focus. It means trading the hyper-vigilance of the job for the quiet grace of the dinner table.

Spouses and children carry the weight of the long shifts, missed holidays, and silent burdens. They deserve the same focused attention the community receives. True stewardship of the home begins with being fully present, listening with patience, and trusting God to hold the weight of the calls left behind.

Let us pray for our dispatchers today. May God grant them the peace to leave the radio chatter at the console, and the grace to pour into the loved ones who hold down the fort.

"Let all that you do be done in love." – 1 Corinthians 16:14

TheĀ Georgia First Responder PTSD ProgramĀ is designed to help bridge financial gaps first responders encounter following a diagnosis of PTSD. It helps with extra expense items such as deductibles, co-pays, out of network treatments, and to offset loss of income. The benefits provide a little peace of mind so the first responder can focus on healing.

Vicarious, cumulative grief, stress and trauma will take a toll. The average person will likely experience 1-5 traumatic events in their life. The average first responder will likely experience 300-500 traumatic events in their career, and they get to have their own personal stuff on top of that. For many, it's unresolved trauma experiences from earlier life before they chose their career that waits in the shadows as the tension and stress builds until they emerge as substance abuse, addiction, infidelity, anger, and burnout.
There's nothing wrong with admitting that a call sucked. Letting your partner or crew know that a call bothered you doesn't make you weak, hopefully they're strong enough to admit it too. Honest vulnerability is a resilience superpower.

A tale from the life of Ron. Following the memorial service to honor Dad, we were approached by a high ranking public safety official who shared a story with us. Ron used to be his supervisor and he was going through or had been recently divorced and Ron had been getting on his case about his bad diet. One evening, Ron asked his wife to cook an extra serving of dinner and package it up on a Tupperware dish. He then delivered it to the unnamed officer so he could have a home cooked meal instead of a gas station hot dog. This was one of the many occasions when Ron demonstrated what top tier servant leadership actually is: taking care of his people.
