Bipartisanship? In *my* Congress? Yes! Members of Congress are finding some common ground on environmental and energy issues. Recognizing what these areas of agreement are—and why they work—is necessary to better navigate the political landscape of climate policies.

In a new article, EESI analyzed all environmental, energy, and climate bills from January to March 2026 to determine key trends in bipartisanship and legislative priorities. Our intern Jasmyn is here to break down this analysis! Looking at 393 bills, some issues were more conducive to bipartisanship than others, including oceans, disaster management, permitting, and wildfires.

For more bipartisan trends by the numbers, check out our new article on common ground in Congress at www.eesi.org/commonground

New resource alert! 🚨🚨🚨

EESI just published an overview on electrification, or the replacement of fossil fuels with electricity to power appliances, equipment, and vehicles. Electric technologies are more efficient and better for the climate and environment. As our interns would say, "turns out fossil fuels are lowkey cringe and we are in our electric 👏 glow 👏 up 👏 arc 👏!!"

👋 Join us in welcoming EESI's summer policy intern, Megan Davies!

Megan comes to us from Harvard University, where she majors in Environmental Science and Public Policy with a minor in Government. For her internship, she's most excited to meet all the EESI staff and learn from them. And she's a big fan of film photography! 📸

If you've heard anything about the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) lately, it's probably because of the program's financial problems.

The NFIP was created to save households (and FEMA) from financial catastrophe when disaster strikes in flood zones where private companies are unable to insure properties at a reasonable price. It still meets that need for 4.7 million Americans, but increasingly extreme storms and outdated risk rating systems have tipped the NFIP into debt. To learn how Congress can help, check out our new article on bipartisan proposals for NFIP reform, including the solutions shown in this graphic.

The first intern of EESI's summer cohort started this week!

Joining our communications team is Jasmyn Mirsepahi. Jasmyn is a rising senior at Georgetown University majoring in Science, Technology, and International Affairs with a concentration in Energy and Environmental Science. When asked what excites her about this internship, she said, "I can't wait to learn more about solutions-oriented approaches to climate policy, to be optimistic about our future, and to compost at work!"

A fun fact about Jasmyn is that she is a die-hard One Direction fan... but she didn't tell us which direction 🤷‍♀️

Welcome, Jasmyn!

Stay tuned to meet her fellow intern on the policy team next week.

If you use EESI's resources, you might have noticed that we've done a lot of content on climate data recently, including a briefing, a podcast, and a DC Climate Week event.

Since last year, hundreds of federal weather and climate datasets and reports have been removed from public access, altered, or buried. Fortunately, there has been a coordinated effort to “rescue” a lot of data before it disappears. EESI is helping people keep track of where they can find the information they need.

Learn more about climate data and other new resources in today's edition of our newsletter, EESI Impact: https://ow.ly/6Q6S50Z2Vn0

EESI's data center resources are used by journalists far and wide—most recently by The Wall Street Journal! Clara Hudson cited our deep dive on water consumption in a piece about a bipartisan Senate bill that aims to incentivize water reuse in data centers.

Join EESI and Danielle Watson of American Forests this Friday at noon for a Rapid Readout about the implications of the planned U.S. Forest Service reorganization. Danielle will explore how these changes could impact decades of science, including key climate-related forest research.
