🌵 The Lower Salt River near Mesa, Arizona, will be the site of the 2026 National Public Lands Day Signature Event!

NEEF is partnering with Natural Restorations and the U.S. Forest Service-Tonto National Forest for the 11th annual Lower Salt River Cleanup on September 26.

Volunteers will remove trash, tackle invasive species, and help care for the riverbanks and trails that wildlife and communities depend on.

The Lower Salt River community has been living out this year's NPLD theme, Caring for Our Shared America, for more than a decade, with families, veterans, and other volunteers coming together to care for the river.

The Signature Event recognizes the benefits of time outdoors and is made possible with support from the American Medical Association and NEEF.

What we restore together says a lot about who we are.

Most people associate Pearl Harbor with December 7, 1941. But native Hawaiians knew these waters as Wai Momi, "pearl waters," home to ancient fishponds built over centuries. Only three remain today.

Archaeologist Jeffrey Pantaleo rediscovered one hidden beneath overgrown mangrove and has spent the last decade bringing it back to life alongside native Hawaiian and military communities.
