As the school year kicks off, we're still basking in the joy of 5 unforgettable weeks of Kids On Ice Summer Fun Camp! 🎉 We're celebrating the triumphs, the friendships forged, and the unforgettable memories created on and off the ice. 💫 Our incredible KOI coaches ignited a spark in every child, fueling their passions and potential through skating lessons, on-ice games, arts and crafts, and outdoor adventures. Coaches shared their expertise from various sports and activities - flag football with Coach Wallace, synchronized skating with Coaches Rainah, Khadi and Mari, theatre and dance with Coach Zophia, hockey with Coaches Bryan, Toni and Will, and inline skating with Coach Rashid (in partnership with .innercityexcellence ). It's a true privilege to witness kids transform from tentative steps to confident strides on the ice. We're beaming with pride over the remarkable growth we've seen this summer - in kids and coaches alike! 🌟

We can't wait to see everyone back on the ice this winter! ❄️

Attention Kids On Ice friends and family!!! Please see this important announcement about this evening's Freeskate Friday event at Fort Dupont Ice Arena.

Due to our unfamiliarity with the unique requirements involved in renting ice time for private events at FDIA, we overlooked that DPR had limited the capacity of our private event to 50 participants. Our multiple inquiries over the past few weeks about capacity limits for private events went unanswered, and we were only made aware of the 50-person limit this past Monday. Our attempts to follow up this week to correct the situation (in order to accommodate everyone who registered for Freeskate Friday) went unanswered until today.

This is very disappointing, as we were looking forward to a joyful reunion with so many of our Kids On Ice families at the place where it all began thirty years ago.

While we can only offer FREE ice skating to the first 50 people to come to the event, we hope that you’ll still come by to say hello to your KOI family and friends, and pick up a gift bag!

Our mission has always been and will always be to get more kids on the ice by removing barriers that have traditionally limited access to ice skating. We will continue to offer free and low-cost ice skating experiences for kids wherever and whenever we can. Kids in DC deserve no less!

I first came to Kids On Ice® as a young skater. Now, I’m proud to mentor the kids coming through the program.
Kids On Ice® helped me grow into the person I am today. It gave me confidence, encouragement, and a community that believed in me. Now, I’m grateful to help pass that experience along to the next generation of DC youth.

Because of your support, we have raised $8,850 so far. These funds are already at work covering our Kids On Ice® summer camp expenses, ensuring our skaters have a safe, productive, and exciting summer.

If you haven't had a chance to contribute yet, it’s not too late! Give Greater DC runs until 11:59 PM on May 31. We still have $5,975 in matching funds waiting to be unlocked—meaning every gift is doubled until we hit our goal.

MJ joined Kids On Ice® at age six and quickly found a place where he was known, encouraged, and inspired to persevere. Through summer camps, mentorship, and new friendships, he continues to build skills both on and off the ice. MJ and his entire family, residents of DC’s Ward 7, are grateful for the tremendous support of the KOI community … and for donors like you.

All Summer Camps are facilitated by well-known, treasured KOI alumni coaches. Daily activities include skating lessons, games (on and off the ice), conditioning, mindfulness, arts and crafts, with snacks provided. We provide skates, equipment, and appropriate rink apparel to any child who doesn’t have their own.
