Small Things Matter Our mission is to serve those in need with our food, literacy, and crafting programs. We primarily serve families in Montgomery County, MD.

Small Things Matter is founded on the idea that small acts of kindness can make a big impact on someone’s life. Our motto is “kid-powered kindness for those in need!” We are committed to helping others in need through our Kokua Foods, Books for Bedtime, and Crafting for Charity programs. Our Kokua Foods Program provides fresh produce, dairy, bread, meat, as well as nonperishable food support to t

hose in need. In addition we offer other needed supplies such as diapers, clothing, and holiday gifts as we are able. Our Books for Bedtime is committed to encouraging reading through our Books for Bedtime literacy program. We distribute brand-new books to at risk-children at our food distributions as well as at community events. Our teens engage with the younger students by reading with them and fostering a lifetime love of reading. Our Crafting for Charity empower kids of all ages to use and share their talents to help others in need whether it be with an encouraging word on a rock, a handmade stuffie, or a card with a hand drawn picture. We lead crafting workshops and charity birthday parties with the resulting handcrafted items donated those in need. Organizations that we support with our donations include The Children’s Inn at the NIH, Children’s National Medical Center, and Pediatrics at Shady Grove Hospital. Our members are made of teens and adults working together and learning from one another. The teens lead by largely planning and run our efforts and in doing so develop strong leadership skills. We also provide encouragement and support for children that want to lead their own project. If you have an idea for a new project please contact us by email or phone.
