Sons & Daughters of Koinadugu - SDK

Sons & Daughters of Koinadugu - SDK SDK is registered 501C in the US that brings Koinadugans in the diaspora to pull resources together and give back to their home.

Koinadugu is the largest district in Sierra Leone mostly known for its flourishing agriculture and rich melting pot of different cultures and tribes. Sons and Daughters of Koinadugu (SDK) was started as a way to assist the residents fight against Ebola virus that came to Sierra Leone in late May 2014. Koinadugu has always been a resilient community and this was proven during the onset of Ebola, Ko

inadugu was the last district of Sierra Leone to be affected. Community leaders and citizens were vigilant in ensuring the deadly virus did not reach Koinadugu. Unfortunately, the Ebola virus reached Koinadugu in October 2014. As the Ebola cases lessened, it was apparent that the district still needed assistance in rebuilding their community. SDK is a Non-political, non-governmental and non-profit organization that aims to bring Koinaduguans around the globe together to assist the impoverished, economically deprived district in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social and economic empowerment.

Dear Koinadugu and Falaba Communities,

We are delighted to announce an update regarding our forthcoming 2026 medical mission to Kabala. SDKF will be collaborating with Healing Hand and CITA to guarantee the success of this endeavor. Our team, led by Dr. Nadia, comprises Dr. Fatmata, MD, and Mr. David, RN-MSN.

Scheduled to depart from the United States on January 31st, the team will be equipped with all necessary medications and equipment, arriving in Lungi on February 1st. After an overnight stay, we will proceed to Kabala on February 2nd, where local SDKF volunteers will join us.

A series of meetings are planned, including a briefing with SDKF volunteers and a meeting with the district medical team and other organizers.

The medical mission is scheduled to take place on February 3rd and 4th at the N’sara Clinic in Yogomaia Kabala, with the objective of treating a minimum of 300 patients.

The mission will focus on examining cases related to diabetes, hypertension, women's health, and eye screening. SDKF will handle diabetes and hypertension cases, including screening and providing three months' worth of free medication. Additionally, SDKF will supply blood pressure medicine, glucometers, lancets, and finger sticks to the Kabala Government Hospital diabetes clinic.

Furthermore, the team plans to establish the first diabetes clinic in Falaba District at the Government Hospital in Mongo.

We invite volunteers to join our team in preventing diseases and saving lives.

Best regards,
SDKF Health and Hygiene Team
