Due to the uncertainty of the coming months with respect to the corona virus and speaking with the involved schools, the Ashland School Safety Patrol has made the decision to postpone our trip. This decision was not taken lightly but was made to ensure our students’ safety and with the hope that this virus will have been contained by the time of the newly scheduled trip. The tentative dates for our trip will be September 16-20. We have been in discussion with our vendors and at this time we anticipate our students being able to do all of the activities that had been originally planned. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but it is our hope that this decision both keeps your child safe and enables them to still experience the trip that they have earned.

The Ashland School Safety Patrol has been closely monitoring the Coronavirus situation and how it may affect our upcoming trip. We have been in contact with local school executives and have been speaking with many of the providers that we use during our travel. We are looking at all options and possible solutions to this ever changing situation. The ASSP is doing all that we can to ensure that our students get to experience Washington D.C. in the best way possible, but we must also keep their safety as our number one priority. We hope to have more information in the very near future and will provide it to you as soon as we are able to.

We apologize for not making it home on time. We made a decision to leave the luggage on bus 1 for safety concerns. When I last contacted the bus driver he was still waiting on a crew to change his tire and then he would bring the luggage. I will contact Charles Russell staff when it’s back in town so arrangements can be made to pick it up.

Everyone is home safe and even with the minor issue we had a fun successful 53rd trip. I wanted to personally give a shout out and say thank you you to all those that volunteer their time and resources.

****TRIP UPDATE****
A bus got a flat tire just as we crossed into West Virginia. Our capable staff has loaded everyone onto the other four busses and we are back on the road home.

This will push our anticipated arrival time back significantly. Chaperones will update you with an arrival time as we get closer to home.

CHANGE OF PLANS: We had a thunderstorm move through while we were touring the National Cathedral. Everyone was safe and dry inside structures at the church. Forecasts call for further rain and wind so we are going to tour indoors and see the founding documents at the National Archives.
