The Seniors Center is a grassroots organization that encourages its members to personally influence their representatives in Congress. Since then, it has proven to be a vital program for millions of retired Americans. The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund (OASI) has helped to secure the retirement of 15 million citizens over the age of 65. But due to the irresponsible policies of politici
ans sitting in Washington, the program is facing insolvency. Despite having a surplus amount in the Trust Fund, Social Security’s future is imperiled. The reason is simple--our Social Security money is being used to finance expensive government projects and serve selfish political agendas. If the present situation persists, by 2019 benefit payouts will exceed the amount of collected funds. Reserves will allow the government to meet scheduled benefit payments for another 15 years. But the Social Security Trustees estimate those reserves will be completely depleted by 2034. With no legislative reform or intervention, benefits payments will see a 25% cut after 2034. Seniors already struggling with their current monthly benefit could lose a quarter of the Social Security they’ve earned if Congress doesn’t act right now. The Seniors Center is devoted to finding solutions for the millions of American seniors that depend on their Social Security; Americans who have worked hard throughout their lives and diligently made their contributions to the Trust Fund in hopes for a secure retirement. No retiree should struggle because of inadequate benefits. We at the Seniors Center have made it our mission to demand Congress dedicate themselves to permanently solving the Social Security funding crisis and protecting America’s seniors and retirees. We believe Social Security belongs only to the hard-working Americans who contributed to the Trust Fund all their working lives. And we don’t intend to let it be ignored or abused.
