What is your favorite part about working at Building Bridges Across the River?
The people!

What is one fun fact about you?
I’m an artist! I do my own tattoos, and I’m creating an anime right now.

What is your favorite moment you’ve experienced at THEARC?
Last fall, while I was still a security guard, I got to help run the whole campus when the staff was in New York. I loved helping our partners across all the buildings and feeling like such a big part of the team. It also gave me a chance to experience what it’s like to work at the front desk every day!

What a night at THEARC! ✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2026 AfterDark@THEARC Gala, The Chef’s Table: Honoring Flavors of Hope. Together, we raised nearly $900,000 to support Building Bridges Across the River’s work.

From the food and performances to the stories shared throughout the night, this celebration was made possible by our community. We’re so grateful to our co-chairs, Capital One and Novo, and to every sponsor, donor, chef, artist, volunteer, partner, and guest who showed up for Building Bridges.

Your support helps create more opportunities for residents east of the Anacostia River. Thank you for making this an evening to remember! ❤️

We’re thrilled to welcome Life Pieces to Masterpieces to THEARC Gallery for Sharing Humanity! 🎨

Created by Black male artists from Ward 7, this powerful exhibition features colorful collages made from acrylic-painted scraps of canvas. Through Life Pieces to Masterpieces’ signature collaborative and cathartic art process, the artists share their challenges, joys, and connections to Washington, DC, and the wider world.

1. What is your favorite part of working at Building Bridges Across the River?
My favorite part of Building Bridges Across the River is being part of an organization that truly brings people and the community together. I love seeing how the work we do creates opportunities for people to connect through health, arts, education and events. It feels good to know that the work I do, even in small ways, contributes to something bigger than myself.

2. What is the most impactful memory you have during your time working here?
The most impactful part of my time at Building Bridges Across the River has been seeing the difference the organization makes in Wards 7 and 8. It has been meaningful to be part of an organization that is committed to creating more opportunities and resources for residents in the community. Seeing the different programs, events, and partnerships that bring people together has given me a greater appreciation for the importance of investing in the community. Knowing that the work we do helps provide access to opportunities that can positively impact families and residents.

3. What is one fun fact about you?
One fun fact about me is that I enjoy shooting pool. I’m always looking for a good challenge, so if you think you can beat me, I’m ready! 🎱

Our biggest Back-to-School Festival yet! 🎒

This year, 2,529 community members joined us at THEARC, where we distributed 2,023 backpacks and provided 156 free haircuts and braids to help students head into the school year ready and confident.

The day also featured more than a dozen community organizations, including many of our THEARC partners, the Commanders Cheerleaders on the main stage with live Go-Go music, a rock wall, bull riding, and even a train through the woods!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, partnered with us, and came out to celebrate. We loved seeing so many families come together for an incredible day at THEARC! 💛
