ForestPlanet

ForestPlanet ForestPlanet supports large scale, low-cost reforestation projects all around the world. We support large scale tree planting projects on a global scale.

This is the official page for ForestPlanet, an organization based in the District of Columbia. Our username - 'GoNegative' - refers to the need for all of us to be carbon-negative with our transactions, since carbon neutral isn't good enough anymore. Trees have many great benefits, but one of the greatest is helping get excess atmospheric carbon back into the soil where it can do its magic.

Great time for the whole family, and one tree is planted for each home game ticket sold *all season*. We look forward to seeing you then and there!

We plant trees — not for Earth Day, but for every day of the year. The planet doesn't take 364 days off, and neither do we.

So Happy Earth Day(s), all 365 of them.

Just in time for Earth Day/Month/Year, we’re happy to announce our partnership with Engaged Math. They believe that meaningful math learning starts with curiosity, clarity, and confidence. Their old fashion physical Algebra workbook builds real understanding with step-by-step lessons and real-time feedback... and trees are planted for every student. Re-greening the world while empowering the next generation, welcome aboard!

"I am no tree, I am an Ent!"

- Treebeard

A single tree that looks like it's out for a walk has been picked as New Zealand’s 2024 Tree of the Year. People noticed the tree because of its unusual shape, as if it were leaning forward and moving along a path. Photographs of the tree have been shared widely, and many people felt an instant connection to it.

The judges said the tree stood out not just for how it looks but for what it represents. It stands alone in its spot, showing strength and character. Locals and visitors say it has personality, and that made it an easy choice. The award celebrates trees that are special to communities and that tell a story about the place and its people.

For many, the honor is a reminder to slow down and appreciate nature. The lonely tree now carries a new kind of value — people want to protect it and remember the joy it gave them. The award helps highlight how even one small tree can bring meaning, beauty, and a sense of togetherness to a community.

We’re quite glad to partner once again with DC’s own PostClassical Ensemble for their next concert, titled Orpheus: The Magic of the Arts. Tuesday May 26th, 6:30pm at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center. Curated by The Phillips Collection’s Director Emerita, Dorothy Kosinski, this multimedia concert reimagines the myth of Orpheus, exploring its influence across music, dance, and visual arts, with music by Gluck, Offenbach, Mahler, Stravinsky and more.

What does Orpheus have to do with reforestation? Probably nothing. But every event has a footprint, and kudos to the amazing PostClassical Ensemble for recognizing this fact *and* actually doing something about it – one tree is planted for each ticket sold!
Follow the link for more information, and we’ll see you there!

Imagine walking outside and picking a dozen fresh avocados — every single day — for free.

That’s not a dream. It’s exactly what ForestPlanet is helping make possible.

We’re working with communities to turn this idea into reality for hundreds of families — planting trees that provide real, daily value.

Because here’s the truth:
Most people don’t plant trees because of carbon charts or climate statistics.

They plant trees because they need the food or wood they produce.
Because they need income.
Because they want a better future for their families.

🌱 When a tree means food on the table…
💰 When it creates income…
🌍 That’s when real, lasting reforestation happens.

Plant trees that people need — and they’ll protect them for generations.

Fast Forward: 25,000 Trees Go to their “Forever Homes”

Remember Esther and her fruiting tree nursery? The last time we blogged about Esther was back in September when her seedlings were off to a great start.

Now we are thrilled to provide a project update to share the meaningful impact these trees are having in Esther’s community in the village of Pangani, Tanzania.

It's not too late to attend the DC Environmental Film Festival! Films run through March 28.

There are many great things about living in the DMV, and we're happy to spread the word about this one in particular.

The Environmental Film festival in the Nation’s Capital (DCEFF) is the world’s premier showcase for environmentally themed film. The festival brings together film lovers and film makers through their dedication to excellence in programming, education, and community engagement.

This year’s festival amplifies the unwavering voices of those who press on in defense of our planet, even in the face of significant challenges.

Even while new global tensions and stresses arise, we here at ForestPlanet emphatically reject cynicism and work to create hope. That's why we love the DCEFF: In more than twenty venues all over town, they showcase art and science to inspire us all.

Check it out - https://dceff.eventive.org/schedule. We hope to see you then and there!

Until then, Keep Calm, Plant Trees, and Plant Hope.

Global conflicts can feel distant — until suddenly they aren't.

This week, war unexpectedly touched our work. ForestPlanet’s Executive Director was scheduled to return to Tanzania to support local tree planting, but the flight routed through Dubai — whose airport was struck by missiles and is now closed. We have re-routed our travel plans and are pressing on with our projects.

Our travel disruption is nothing compared to the suffering caused by war. But it’s a reminder of how interconnected our world has become.

Fortunately, restoration and hope spread across borders too.

Every tree restores soil, supports livelihoods, stabilizes climate, and strengthens communities. We can't claim to end conflicts, but our work helps prevent new ones.

Keep Calm — and Plant On. 🌳
