Trust for the National Mall

Trust for the National Mall Welcome! The Trust for the National Mall is the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service caring for the National Mall. Bordered by the U.S.

The Trust for the National Mall aims to create a sense of stewardship and raise much-needed funds to sustainably restore our National Mall. Capitol, the White House and 10 Smithsonian Institution Museums in the heart of America’s capitol city, the National Mall is where the American story lives. The Washington Monument serves as a global beacon for democracy. The Lincoln Memorial is an iconic symb

ol for diversity and unity. The Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial powerfully reminds us of the very human cost of war. And for decades, the weary Mall grounds have served as a national stage for the turning point demonstrations and jubilant celebrations that have defined what it means to be American. The park hosts 29 million visits each year, more than Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon and Yosemite national parks combined. While most people think of the National Mall as it appears in postcards and movies – acres of pristine grounds dotted with perfectly polished memorials – the reality is a far cry from this idea.

- The National Mall is America’s most visited national park and it has no entrance fee. It is only funded through annual federal budgets that cover basic operations – but not major repairs and needed upgrades.

- Today, failed landscapes and aging monuments face serious structural problems – and hundreds of millions of dollars in deferred maintenance.

- Over a year ago, a 5-foot long chunk of stone fell from the Jefferson Memorial and the damaged area remains blocked off to visitors while it awaits repair.

- Missing ceiling tiles mar the breathtaking view inside the Lincoln Memorial.

- Flooded and cracked sidewalks near the war memorials are impassable to visitors in wheel chairs.

- Dead fish float atop a stagnant pond just east of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial.

- And the oldest building in the park, which is in the shadow of the Washington Monument, has sat boarded up for nearly 40 years. Together, with your help, we can save the crumbing symbols of democracy and preserve the still-unfolding story of America.

Celebrating the 110th birthday of the National Park Service with a brand new partnership announcement to restore and enrich America’s most visited national park! 🏛️🌳🥳

Thank you to TD Bank for an incredible $1 million gift in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. The gift will fund preservation and educational programming at the historic Lockkeeper’s House 🏠 , the oldest building structure on the National Mall. The House now serves as a mini-museum on the Mall.

“TD’s investment in the Lockkeeper’s House is an investment in the stories that connect us to our nation’s past and will ensure we can better preserve and share its rich history with all who visit for the future,” — Catherine Townsend, President & CEO, Trust for the National Mall.

In 2018, the Lockkeeper’s House was relocated and meticulously restored by the Trust thanks to its generous supporters.

Celebrating NATIONAL PARKS WEEK🌞🌳🏛️

Today we’re celebrating America’s national parks and joining our partners at the National Park Service to spotlight Safety Sunday!

We’re sharing gratitude for the all of the park rangers and the U.S. Park Police Mounted Unit who help safely guide visitors here on the National Mall, America’s most visited national park.

And we’re reminding visitors — whether touring, jogging, picnicking or selfie-ing — to follow pathways, stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and look out for one another!

Today marks the 93rd birthday of the creation of the National Mall as a national park! 🎂🇺🇸🏛️

On August 10, 1933, the National Mall and Memorial Parks was established as a unit of the National Park Service by the U.S. Congress. Today we celebrate America’s most visited and most meaningful national park, home to the monuments, memorials and moments that tell the story of our nation.

Thank you to the National Park Service for your service and dedication as our partner in restoring and preserving America’s Front Yard.

We've come this far thanks to all of the volunteers and donors throughout the years who support our mission with NPS. As we head toward the National Mall’s 100-year birthday, join us and become a Friend of the National Mall today at nationalmall.org!
