Support the 2026 National Society of Black Physicists Student Support Campaign!

In 2025, budget cuts reduced student attendance nearly in half, from over 1,000 to 659. Seventy-two percent of students who did attend said they could not have been there without financial support. The students who need this conference most are often the least able to afford it. For many Black physics students, the NSBP conference is the first time they have been in a room full of physicists who look like them.

We celebrate Black scientists all year! Today, we would like to highlight Latonya Pegues.

Latonya Pegues has built a distinguished legacy through her leadership in the National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP), her entrepreneurial achievements, and her commitment to community empowerment. Within NSBP, she advanced the organization's mission by strengthening outreach, elevating professional development opportunities, and championing greater representation for Black physicists across academia, industry, and government.

As founder and CEO of BOAZ Enterprise, Pegues transformed her expertise into a thriving enterprise focused on communication strategy, leadership training, and organizational effectiveness. Her work has helped organizations translate complex ideas, build inclusive cultures, and develop leaders equipped to communicate with clarity and purpose.

Pegues also extends her impact through her involvement with BOAZ, where she supports initiatives that foster economic empowerment, mentorship, and sustainable community development.
