About 200 people visited us on October 7 to light candles at the Sephardic Heritage International (SHIN-DC) Kemp Mill Community October 7 Memorial, held in partnership with Shalom Kosher.

The first candle was lit by American-Israeli Nova survivor Sheerel Gabay of Frontline Advocates, a SHIN-DC member who was shot on October 7. Sheerel lit the first candle alongside five other IDF reservists.

Together, our community has already raised **$1,079.90** for two designated charities supporting victims of October 7. We received those contributions on October 7, and some have asked us to follow up with them today about making additional donations.

What made this memorial from 10AM-7PM especially meaningful was seeing the incredible diversity of our Kemp Mill community come together in remembrance. People shared how grateful they were to have a place to honor the victims and mark the day together. Some people cried as they lit their candles. Families lit candles together. And a few parents used the opportunity to explain to their very young children what happened on October 7 and why this memorial mattered.

The emotional weight of October 7 is heavy to carry. But with every person who came, lit a candle, stood in solidarity, or offered support, that burden felt just a little lighter.

**We are deeply grateful to everyone who showed up, remembered, and helped ensure that October 7 will never be forgotten.**

September 19, pleased to have attended Magen David Sephardic Congregation’s amazing Selichot Unity Concert, with Rabbi Soussan, in commUNITY with Sephardic Heritage International DC (SHIN-DC) and our local Sephardic synagogues.

Tremendous performances by MDSC’s very own hazzan Rabbi David Haiek and Rabbi Yosi Amiga. Also singing was Rabbi Hazzan Boaz Yakubov, with SHIN-DC Ambassador Gil Cohen joining on shofar during Selihot. There were also remarks of Torah from Rabbi Levy of Beit HaLevy Sephardic synagogue.

Our Director Afraim Katzir wishes you, “Gmar hatima tova!”
