On May 5, 2026, we gathered at Lamont Plaza to commemorate 35 years since the 1991 Mt. Pleasant uprisings. We had historical photos, a community resource fair with 15+ partner organizations, and an inspiring roundtable discussion featuring BB Otero, Lori Kaplan, Manuel Mendez, and Marilyn Miranda, moderated by Patrick Scallen. The event was hosted by the San Romero Plaza Collective.

Today, March 24th, marks the 46th anniversary of San Óscar Romero’s assassination. On this day in 1980, the world lost a moral leader in the people's struggle, who selflessly dedicated his life to defending those facing injustice. As we mourn his life today, we remember his unwavering commitment to oppressed communities and the importance of continuing his fearless pursuit of justice and dignity.

46 years after he was taken from us, his legacy is still giving people across the globe the courage to speak up for what is right. We are eternally grateful for his trailblazing impact in advancing social justice. This project was created in honor of his legacy, and we will continue leading with the timeless moral teachings that he left behind. We honor Monseñor Óscar Romero’s memory today and every day.

"If I denounce and condemn injustice, it is because it is my duty as a pastor of an oppressed and humiliated people.”

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Reverend Hagler, a true voice for the voiceless. He was an tireless worker for social justice, a moral voice who never wavered in his commitment to dignity, equality, and the defense of the most vulnerable.

We were honored to have him with us on August 15 2025 for the San Romero celebration. His presence, his words, and his example will stay with us.

We hold his family, his community, and all those who walked with him in our thoughts.

RIP

Yesterday, we met with Bishop Evelio Menjivar, the first Central American to serve as a bishop in the United States. It was a very positive meeting. We discussed the situation of the Latino community in the DMV, the work the ad hoc committee has been carrying out, and the importance of having the support of the Catholic Church in the region. We also presented the Plaza San Romero phase of the project and requested his accompaniment, understanding this effort as a starting point to continue strengthening Romero’s legacy.
We appreciate Bishop Menjivar’s openness and look forward to deepening this collaboration.
