As we celebrate Pride throughout June (and year-round), it's critical to recognize the importance of support and mentorship for LGBTQIA+ colleagues’ advancement and success in academia.

From graduate students to tenured professors, the findings of this year’s State of Geography report, “The Status of Women and Underrepresented Groups in Geography: A Multidimensional Analysis”, examine levels of satisfaction, barriers, and successes in the discipline. A wide range of recommendations in the report address the challenges faced by and concerns of traditionally underrepresented groups in geography, including LGBTQ perspectives.

As Congress advances its discussion of the FY2027 budget, the National Science Foundation (NSF) and its Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) continue to be in jeopardy. We urge our members to continue to call on their legislators to protect funding for geography.
