Official Statement From SOLI, Sons of Liberty International.
Matthew VanDyke, 46, an American journalist, humanitarian, and award‑winning filmmaker whose documentary “Point and Shoot” won Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival, has been held in Tihar Prison in New Delhi since April 6th, following his detention by the NIA on March 13th.
VanDyke is undergoing legal proceedings in India. His family and legal representatives say they are cooperating fully with authorities while urging a resolution that reflects humanitarian considerations and VanDyke’s deteriorating health.
According to his family, he has at times been unable to walk without assistance and required a wheelchair on April 6th after a court hearing as reported by Indian media during his transfer to Tihar further raising urgent concerns about his access to adequate medical care. This too was confirmed by his attorney in Delhi, and the U.S. Embassy who were previously denied access to VanDyke under NIA detention.
The family has formally requested ongoing U.S. consular assistance and is urging U.S. officials to intervene on humanitarian grounds. “We ask the U.S. Embassy and the Government of the United States to provide all appropriate consular support to ensure Matthew’s rights, welfare, and medical needs are protected,” the family said.
