The CAATE has a new home!

As part of an exciting new chapter for our organization, we're pleased to welcome Carly Reisner as CAATE's Executive Director and begin a new partnership with Association Management Center (AMC).

While our address has changed, our mission remains the same. With strong leadership, experienced staff, and strategic vision, the CAATE is well-positioned to continue serving the athletic training community and shaping the future of the profession.

Kysha Harriell, PhD, LAT, ATC, FNAP, has been elected President-Elect of the CAATE Commission. She will begin her President-Elect term in October 2026, leading into a three-year term as President from Fall of 2027 to Fall of 2030.

Dr. Harriell currently serves as CAATE Vice President and brings extensive experience as a clinician, educator, scholar, and leader in athletic training education.

We're excited to announce the following updates to our Board of Commissioners beginning in October.

- Toni Torres-McGehee, Ph.D., LAT, ATC, FACSM, will continue to serve as President in FY 2026-27.

- Kysha Harriell, PhD, LAT, ATC, FNAP, will serve as President-Elect.

- Marje Albohm, MS, AT Ret., has been elected Secretary-Treasurer for a one-year term.

- Jim Reidy, MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS, and Amanda Tritsch, PhD, LAT, ATC, were appointed to join for a three-year term.

The Pete Koehneke Award was established in 2016 and honors an outstanding leader who has made significant, ongoing contributions of exceptional value to athletic training education and accreditation over a sustained period of service. Recipients of this award have a minimum of 20 years of service to AT education and accreditation. Nominees are evaluated on service to the profession and to the CAATE. The CAATE is pleased to announce Sara Brown, MS, ATC, as the 2026 Pete Koehneke Award recipient.

Sara has devoted more than four decades to advancing the athletic training profession through exceptional leadership, innovation in education, and sustained service. As a longtime faculty member and Director of Athletic Training Programs at Boston University, Brown played a pivotal role in preparing generations of athletic trainers while helping guide the profession's transition to graduate professional education.

She served as Chair of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Executive Committee for Education, led the development of landmark monographs on the future of athletic training education, and was the inaugural Chair of the CAATE Standards Committee. Her leadership helped shape accreditation standards, educational competencies, and professional expectations that continue to guide athletic training programs across the country.

Her impact extends beyond academia through her service to the Board of Certification (BOC), where she served on the Board of Directors, including terms as Vice President and President. She has contributed extensively to examination development, credentialing, accreditation review, and professional governance, helping strengthen the quality and credibility of the profession. Additionally, as a prolific author, presenter, and collaborator, she has advanced evidence-based practice and athletic training education through influential publications, textbooks, and national and international presentations.

We’re proud to recognize Christopher Viesselman, EdD, ATC, LAT, for his meaningful contributions to athletic training education and accreditation. Christopher brings extensive experience in patient care, academic leadership, and student mentorship to his volunteer work with the CAATE.

He currently volunteers as Vice Chair of the Professional Accreditation Council and as a Peer Reviewer, helping support quality improvement, innovation, and the advancement of athletic training programs nationwide.
