The House passed a stopgap funding bill July 21 that holds NIH funding at FY26 levels through December 4. Because flat funding will not sustain or advance progress, we call on Congress to protect and expand our investment in biomedical research.

The continuing resolution would fund the federal government until Dec. 4. It now heads to the Senate, where it could face obstacles.

We thank Congress for maintaining the bipartisan consensus on funding biomedical science. As lawmakers begin work on the next funding cycle, the Rally for Medical Research will continue urging Congress to make research funding a top priority.

A year ago, federal support for scientific research appeared to be crumbling. But thanks to Congress and several lawsuits, scientists’ worst fears haven’t come to pass.
