(UMDC) provides events, networking, professional development and more, serving as your connection back to all things Michigan in our nation's capital! All of these events, specials and discounted prices are organized and run entirely by an amazing group of volunteers. 🌈 Pride weekend is finally here! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Join us this Sunday, June 21 at the Pride Street Festival on Pennsylvania Avenue as we connect with DC area B1G alumni and celebrate Pride together.

Whether you want to volunteer at the B1G table or are walking through the festival and want to check us out, we will be in the 💚🟢green section🟢💚at booth 📍G127 (check out the map).

But we could still use volunteers! Details below:

✨ Volunteer shifts are just 2 hours
✨ Flexible scheduling — arrive late, leave early, or take a break if needed
✨ Help with setup, booth coverage, or teardown
✨ LGBTQIA+ allies welcome!

📕 UMDC's Book Club and the Michigan Law Alumni Club of Washington DC invite you to join us for an evening with Michigan Law's Barbara McQuade.

🗓️ Thursday, June 18

Barb McQuade (former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan) will discuss her insights from her 2024 bestseller "Attack from Within: How Disinformation Is Sabotaging America" and her new book "The Fix: Saving America from the Corruption of a Mob-Style Government."

Weaving together courtroom stories, real-time political analysis, and cautionary lessons from history and democratic backsliding abroad, McQuade makes the case that the threats we face are not future possibilities, they’re already here. Accessible, eye-opening, and grounded in constitutional faith, Professor McQuade's books are essential reading for everyone concerned about the future of America, and ready to work together to take a stand for it.

At this event, Professor McQuade will be in conversation with Chuck Rosenberg, noted Washington attorney and formerly the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas.

Copies of "Attack from Within" and "The Fix" (which you can have signed by Professor McQuade) will be available for purchase.

🎉 Announcing the 2026 UMDC Samuel L. Chappell Family Scholarship Award Winners: Thai Duong Cai & Helina Mengesha 🎉

Please join us in congratulating these two outstanding students, who will receive scholarship support as they begin their journeys at the University of Michigan this fall! 💙💛

🌟 Thai Duong Cai
A senior at Oakton High School in Vienna, VA, Thai has made an impact through robotics, medical research in Vietnam, and by designing a device to help individuals experiencing memory loss remember to take their medication on time. This fall, he will join the College of Engineering to study Computer Science, with plans to pursue graduate studies in healthcare robotics and machine learning.

💬 “Thank you to the UMDC community for awarding me this scholarship. It allows me to attend the University of Michigan without financial worry and focus fully on my studies and giving back. As someone who moved from Vietnam to pursue this dream, I hope to build a strong community at Michigan and mentor future students along the way.”

A senior at Lightridge High School in Aldie, VA, Helina has been active in theatre, DECA, and FBLA. She will enter the Ross School of Business this fall as a member of the Class of 2030.
