DC State Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., was founded on January 16, 1920. DC consists of 2 graduate and 4 undergraduate chapters, 2 Amicae Auxiliary and youth clubs.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was founded on January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University by our five phenomenal founders affectionately known as our Five Pearls. They are Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings and Fannie Pettie Watts. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., was founded to address societal mores, ills, prejudices and health concerns of the day. W

e continue to serve communities all around the world. The District of Columbia strives to follow the sorority's mission and initiatives as well as addressing issues in our home community. We consist of two graduate chapters, Beta Zeta Chapter and Omicron Phi Zeta Chapter; and 4 undergraduate chapters, Alpha Chapter, Kappa Alpha Chapter, Sigma Pi Chapter and Xi Sigma Chapter.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated honors Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, as an historic moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, marking the true beginning of freedom for all.

We proudly recognize the efforts of our own trailblazing Soror, Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” whose unwavering advocacy helped make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday in 2021.

Today, we celebrate emancipation, reflect on our ancestors’ strength and resilience, and recommit to the work of advancing justice, equity, and unity. Through education, action, and solidarity, we move closer to a world rooted in true freedom for all.
