Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi National Sorority

Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi National Sorority ΣΑΕΠ is the fastest-growing Jewish sorority in the U.S.! Several informational meetings were held at the ΑΕΠ's house and at the Hillel House.

Dedicated to being "Jewish First, Greek Second," we provide a space for women to cultivate and enjoy Jewish identity while enjoying the social, leadership, and educational benefits of a sorority The purpose of ΣΑΕΠ is to promote unity, support, and Jewish awareness, as well as to provide a Jewish experience for ourselves, our members, and the community as a whole. We are devoted to friendship, mot

ivation, opportunity, leadership, and well-being.

ΣΑΕΠ was founded October 1st, 1998 at the University of California, Davis. There was a void left on this campus from the early-1990s, when another national Jewish sorority closed its chapter, leaving the Jewish women on campus without a social organization. In the fall of 1998, with the help of ΑΕΠ, the idea of starting a Jewish woman’s group, not necessarily a formal sorority, was conceived and executed. The response was extremely positive, and thus, ΣΑΕΠ was born with the help of our 6 Eternal Mothers. Erin Barker

The “Sigma" in our name is meant to represent “sisters of", making us the sisters of ΑΕΠ to honor their contributions in creating this sorority. The letter Sigma (Σ) is also the 18th letter of the Greek alphabet, and in Jewish tradition, the number 18 means chai (life), adding even more meaning to our name. Our national philanthropy is American Jewish World Service! This is a non-profit organization that is "inspired by the Jewish commitment to justice. We live by the motto “Jewish First, Greek Second.” While membership is open to women of all religious and cultural backgrounds, our organization is proudly rooted in Jewish values, traditions, and community. Our constitution, programming, and sisterhood are centered around Judaism — because maintaining that foundation is core to who we are.

Tonight begins Yom HaShoah.

We mark 81 years since 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. Today, we remember not only those who were lost, but also the courage of those who resisted, the compassion of those who rescued, and the strength of those who survived.

As sisters of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi, we honor their memory and commit ourselves to standing against antisemitism and hatred in all its forms.
