Capitol City Pharmacy Medical Reserve Corps. The mission of the Capitol City Pharmacy MRC is to engage volunteers to strengthen public health, emergency response, and community resiliency.

The Capitol City Pharmacy Medical Reserve Corps (CCPMRC) is a group of local pharmacy volunteers in Washington, DC, focused on improving the health and safety of their community. We are the first nationally-recognized pharmacy-specialized MRC. CCPMRC is a collaboration between the Howard University College of Pharmacy and the DC Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Administration. This MRC has been uniquely established in October 2013 to recruit and train volunteers to provide pharmacy-related functions during an emergency situation, and has been established as the first nationally-recognized pharmacy-specialized since 2015. Pharmacy related functions include but are not limited to mass vaccinations, staffing medical point-of-dispensing stations and provision of emergency supply of chronic medications.

What an amazing Wednesday!

On September 16th, we had the pleasure of joining the SW Waterfront AARP Chapter for their 13th Annual Health Fair!
The HUCOP MRC team had a great time connecting with our seniors and sharing valuable health information.
We discussed the importance of managing high blood pressure, maintaining a proper diet, staying active through regular exercise, and safely disposing of medications at home or at designated drop-off locations.

We’re excited to continue creating opportunities to educate, connect, and empower our community to make informed decisions about their health.💙✨

Yesterday was all about gratitude.

To my incredible executive board—thank you for your leadership, dedication, and the countless hours you pour into making CCPMRC what it is. Your commitment does not go unnoticed.

To our volunteers—past and present—thank you for showing up, serving selflessly, and being the heart of our mission. Every event, every training, every moment of impact is because of you.

To our speakers—thank you for educating, inspiring, and empowering us to be better healthcare professionals and advocates for our communities.

Together, we are stronger. And because of all of you, we continue uplifting healthcare, strengthening community resilience, and making a difference—one life at a time.

Sincerely,

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Desha Holden-Nelson for taking the time to speak with our students during Black Maternal Health Week.

Her presentation was both powerful and eye-opening—highlighting that nearly 80% of Black maternal deaths are preventable and bringing awareness to the higher rates of cardiovascular complications experienced by Black women before and after pregnancy as well as emergency preparedness measures mothers can take to protect themselves and their little ones.

We especially appreciated the call to action to stay informed by understanding the data within our own communities, empowering us to become stronger advocates where it matters most.

Your dedication to advancing maternal health equity and uplifting Black women through education and advocacy is truly inspiring. The knowledge shared was invaluable.

Thank you again for pouring into our students—we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
