We are so excited and proud of NCT Associate Artistic Director Jen Jacobs who’s production of Bell Wringer with Pinky Swear Productions opens this week and runs til Halloween.

In addition to her work with National Children’s Theatre, Jen is also a Freelance Director. We love to see and support our teaching artists work in the larger community! If you’re looking for something to do this weekend or next, head out to Arlington for this witchy, fun bluegrass musical. (Recommended for those 12+)

Special announcement for NCT students and families: we’re partnering with the PLAY (Play, Learning, Arts, and Youth) Lab at George Mason University, led by Dr. Thalia Goldstein, to conduct research on our programming. Dr. Goldstein is a professor of developmental psychology, and has more than 20 years of experience conducting and leading research projects with children. You’ll receive an email soon with more information, and asking your permission to have your child (and you) participate in our data collection efforts. Your willingness, or not, to participate will not affect your student’s ability to participate in any NCT programs. It’s our mission to champion research-based theatre education programs, and we’re looking forward to what we’ll learn from the PLAY Lab!

Introducing Eloise!

Eloise Linden is a junior at School Without Walls High School. She is excited to be joining the National Children’s Theatre team this fall as an Intern. Eloise has loved theatre since she was little and gets so much joy out of bringing theatre magic to others, especially young aspiring actors!

From Eloise: “Theatre education is especially important to me because I believe anyone who wants to create or be creative should get the chance to do just that. Without theatre classes like the ones at NCT, kids can’t fully foster their creative abilities. Theatre uniquely allows kids to express their wacky ideas and to tell their full stories without being judged or graded, and that is something all kids should have access to.”

Fall classes update: extremely limited space left for students ages 3-5!

Our Young Performers class is SOLD OUT! But there are still spots available in our Musical Theatre Audition Workshop for ages 9-15.

Last weekend we led an awesome theatre education workshop in partnership with ASAP (Armed Services Arts Partnership).

Participants learned about theatre basics and got to put that new knowledge to use acting out the story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!

We are excited to offer a NEW Musical Theatre Audition Workshop for ages 9-15!

Students will learn how to audition with confidence for our upcoming spring musical (and beyond). Learn how to select and rehearse songs that best showcase your voice and personality, how to perform choreography, how to take notes from the director, and tips on calming audition nerves.

Taught by a team of experienced industry professionals, we can’t wait to help your kids shine from the moment they walk in the room.

Come join us on Saturday, October 17th at 2pm at Studio Theatre for our next Childcare Matinee of the season!

What is a Childcare Matinee?

A Childcare Matinee allows you to bring the whole family to the theatre. It gives adults the opportunity to experience the show on the main stage, and children the opportunity to partake in exciting theatre education workshops run by us!

This opportunity is open to children ages 3-5 and 6-12. Both age groups will explore stories through drama activities, play theatre games, and collaborate together on crafts with friends.

All workshops are run by experienced National Children’s Theatre Teaching Artists and cost only $25 per child.*

We’re delighted to announce an expansion of our School Programs with the Arts Integration Program. Designed for K-12 classrooms in the DMV, this program aims to increase students' engagement, understanding, and retention of social studies and English language arts curriculum, while also meeting classroom learning objectives, NCAS theatre standards, and encouraging the The Eight Acting Habits of Mind.

NCT staff work with teachers to create a process-based residency that meets the specific needs of their classroom and engages students with curriculum in an active and fun way.

As September comes to a close we're excited to announce that we are a finalist in both the Extracurricular Activities- Performing Arts Classes and Camps & Summer Programs- Day Camps D.C. categories for Washington Parent Picks 2026!
