A few weekends ago, some of our incoming and outgoing officers had the opportunity to attend the District 4 Tau Beta Pi conference at the DC Alpha chapter at Howard University, where we got to meet several other chapters from across the East coast, including chapters from Maryland, DC, North Carolina, and Virginia.

At the district conference, we had the opportunity to present our activities at UMD, including social and professional events we hosted this past year. We also connected with other chapters formally and informally and shared ongoing efforts that we have to expand Tau Beta Pi at our universities. Thank you to the Howard University DC Alpha chapter for hosting on March 28th and it was great to meet all of the other TBP chapters in District 4!

Happy Pi Day! For our Pi Day celebrations this year, we were able to have our Pi Day fundraiser where we sold pie and also pied TBP officers and professors! We also had a paint night where we were able to have a chill night with pie and painting. See you next Pi Day for more fun celebrations 🥧

Hi engineers! It’s never too early to celebrate Pi Day! Our next fundraiser is TOMORROW where we’ll be selling pies (to eat) and pies for professors and other TBP officers! Come join us as we celebrate Pi Day!

The event will be in Kim Plaza between 1 and 4 pm to see your favorite professors and officers get pied and have some pie to eat 🥧😋

Last semester, we had the honor of initiating 19 new members to our MD Beta chapter. Congrats to our new members and we’re excited to see what you do as members of TBP!

Happy EWeek, Tau Bates! Engineers Week was founded by NSPE to inspire others to work in engineering and support each other in our engineering roles!

Here are some fun facts about engineering this week:

The most popular engineering degree is Mechanical Engineering ⚙️

EWeek is held during the last week of February annually to coincide with George Washington’s birthday because he is considered the nation’s first engineer!

The first Ferris wheel was built in 1893 in Chicago, Illinois by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. to compete with the Eiffel Tower in terms of engineering feats! 🎡
