The President General is the official spokesperson for the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was organized and incorporated in 1890 by four strong, patriotic women who sought to honor their Patriot roots, preserve our cultural heritage, and enhance educational opportunities. With Kentuckian Mary Desha (1850-1911) as one of

the four founders of DAR, the state’s ties to the society were strong. By 1896, Kentucky had more than 10 chapters. The Daughters met in Estill Springs, Kentucky, in 1896 and established the Kentucky Society of the DAR. In 1940, a dilapidated building in Paris, Kentucky, the Duncan Tavern, was purchased by the Jemima Johnson Chapter, NSDAR, for one dollar, with the stipulation that the 1790s structure would be renovated, refurbished, and ready for use within one year, which would include creating a museum, the John Fox, Jr. When the restoration was complete per the contract, the building was turned over to Kentucky State Society, NSDAR. Visit Duncan Tavern website: duncantavern.com
for more information on this historic Kentucky treasure. Today, KSDAR has almost 5,000 members and 83 chapters! We continue our service to the community, state & country. Hood Hearts in Action! 🇺🇸

🌸 In this special Legacy Edition of the DAR Today Podcast, National Chair True Lewis welcomes DAR President General Mrs. Ginnie Sebastian Storage for a heartfelt conversation about her DAR journey, her family’s deep connection to service, and the vision behind her administration theme, Illuminate Our Legacy.

Mrs. Storage shares how her DAR story began through the Children of the American Revolution, her early years in the Washington-Lewis Chapter in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and the meaningful ways DAR became woven into her family life through her mother, her daughter and her husband.

Together, they reflect on the importance of telling the stories of all Revolutionary War patriots — including female patriots, patriots of color, Indigenous patriots, and those whose names have too often been left out of history. Mrs. Storage also shares the meaning behind her Torch and Blossom pins, the President General’s Project, the cherry tree endowment gift to the nation, and the sacred responsibility of preserving Memorial Continental Hall, the DAR Library, and the stories entrusted to our Society.

🌸 As America prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of independence, this episode reminds Daughters and listeners alike that legacy is not only something we inherit — it is something we preserve, share, and carry forward.

“DECLARATIONS: BLACK AMERICANS AND THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR” premieres June 29 at 10 p.m. ET on PBS, PBS.org and the PBS app. The one-hour film arrives as part of PBS America250, a multiyear initiative marking the country’s 250th anniversary.

Rather than focusing on familiar Revolutionary War figures, the documentary centers on four Black Americans whose stories unfolded alongside the nation’s founding, per the news release.
Through their experiences, the film examines how enslaved and free Black people sought liberty for themselves, their families and their communities while democratic ideals spread across the colonies.

🇺🇸 With Heartfelt Gratitude to National Society Daughters of the American Revolution 🇺🇸

As we unveil our newest exhibit, "Women of Valor: 250 Years of Women Serving Our Nation," we extend our deepest thanks to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their partnership and generous support in making this exhibit possible.

As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, this exhibit shines a light on the remarkable women whose service, sacrifice, leadership, and courage helped build, defend, and preserve our Nation across more than 250 years. Their stories remind us that women have been serving our country since before there was a United States and continue to serve with distinction today.

Through DAR’s commitment to preserving and sharing American history, thousands of visitors will have the opportunity to discover the inspiring stories of these women, learn from their experiences, and better understand the vital role they played in shaping our Nation.

We are honored to partner with an organization that shares our dedication to honoring those who came before us and ensuring their legacy endures for future generations.

Thank you, DAR, for helping us tell these important stories and for ensuring that the women who served our Nation receive the recognition they so richly deserve.

✨ Together, we are preserving history, honoring her service, and inspiring the generations to come.

🌸 Leadership stories that start in algebra class? Yes, please.

Have you ever wondered how a girl from Virginia grows into a woman who leads the DAR?

Spoiler alert: It begins with purpose, family stories, and the courage to follow the light — even when that light comes through upside-down torches and cherry blossoms.

This conversation reminds us that our roots matter. Our family stories matter. Our willingness to take a chance matters.
From childhood ancestor research to a lifelong love of historic preservation, every step can help shape a legacy.
And let’s be honest — sometimes we need that reminder:
We do not toot our own horn enough.
So let this be your encouragement today:
Tell your story.
Share your voice.
Honor the women who came before us.
Keep the flame of the torch on hidden heroines of history — female patriots, patriots of color, Indigenous heroes, and the stories that still deserve their spotlight.

June 15th we hear from President General a special Legacy Edition on the DAR Today Podcast
