We are launching Young Women's Leadership across the Regions of Asia and the Pacific in the Face of Major Challenges, a World YWCA RiseUp! study at 3:00 PM AEST.

Over 400 young women told us what stands in the way of their leadership and what makes it possible for them to lead. In an hour, you will hear it from them directly.

Volunteers are central to humanitarian response.

But the plans behind that response don’t always reflect that.

A new study on Volunteerism in Humanitarian Action draws on examples from Sudan, Ukraine, Haiti, the State of Palestine and the Türkiye–Syria earthquake response to examine how volunteers contribute, where they remain overlooked and what needs to change.

The study calls for volunteers to be better integrated into humanitarian planning, financing and safeguarding, so the systems behind humanitarian response reflect the people already delivering it: https://knowledge.unv.org/evidence-library/volunteerism-in-humanitarian-action-supporting-united-nations-entities-and-national-governments-towards-realizing-the-2030-agenda-for-sustainable-development

"Few young women feel they are taken seriously as leaders within their broader community."

This is one of the realities named in new research led by young women through RiseUp! Asia Pacific, launching 27 August.

The research calls out the barriers young women face: patriarchal cultures that challenge their leadership, age-based bias from older generations, and gender inequality that often leads to violence.

It also highlights what creates change: safe spaces, strong feminist networks, families who support their daughters, and older women who choose to open doors for the next generation.

Be part of the launch and hear directly from the young women who shaped and led this research.

Join with us as we celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman of God, Melody Chadmoyo.

YWCA Ireland is saddened to announce that our Board member, Melody, passed away peacefully on Thursday 6 August 2026, surrounded by friends and family.

Melody was an extraordinary woman of God, and YWCA Ireland’s Board and staff feel deeply privileged to have served alongside her in God’s mission.
