🎉 Kono Gnaga’s 2026 School Festival in Mali was a resounding success! Across schools in Bamako, students took part in vibrant dance and music programs that celebrated their rich cultural heritage. Beyond the fun, these activities boosted confidence, strengthened connections with their schools, and inspired a love for learning. ✏️📚 Every participant also received school supplies to support their academic journey. This has been a difficult year on so many levels, in particular as the Kono Gnaga family and the Mali arts community lost 2 of our greatest artists, Issa Diallo, Director of Ballet du District, and Bina Dramane Sanogo. We are honored to be able to hold our annual festival as a tribute to them. Our team of artists have been working with students at 4 schools and we are excited to see the results of their hard work. 🇲🇱 🇲🇱 🇲🇱

Our Executive and Artistic Director, Souleymane Solo Sana, is pictured holding a series of bird’s nests, an image that carries deep meaning for our work. Kono Gnaga translates to “Bird’s Nest” in Bamana. Solo chose this name because, in Bamana culture, phrases often hold layered significance. A bird’s nest is a place of protection, creativity, learning, and care, exactly what we aim to build for the next generation.

At Kono Gnaga, we believe that when young people understand their cultural heritage, they gain a stronger sense of identity, deepen community ties, and reconnect with the history that grounds them. We are proud to help build that foundation.

✨ Starting at midnight tonight, Giving Tuesday begins!
Through our GlobalGiving page, every donation will be matched through the GlobalGiving Incentive, increasing your impact.
