Safeguarding biodiversity in working forests takes collaboration across the supply chain. 🐦🌲

A new video from Amazon highlights how the forest sector is testing an innovative approach to improving biodiversity outcomes in fiber sourcing.

Building on work between SFI, SFI-certified Weyerhaeuser, and biodiversity science leader NatureServe, Amazon.com shares how NatureServe and SFI-certified Domtar Everyday are helping loggers and landowners more easily identify and safeguard habitats that may harbor rare or imperiled species, including features like vernal pools, rock outcroppings, and shaded stream corridors.

Healthy, viable working forests are essential to keeping forests as forests for future generations while providing habitat for the species that depend on them.

Congratulations to Renee Strnad, North Carolina State University Extension, NC Project Learning Tree (PLT) Coordinator for being recognized as the 2026 North Carolina Forestry Association's Educator of the Year! 🏆

A well-deserved recognition, Renee has been a cornerstone of environmental education and PLT in NC, a thought leader nationally for many decades and works tirelessly to grow the next generation of forestry professionals and environmental stewards.

Project Learning Tree, an education initiative of SFI, equips educators with high-quality PreK-12 instructional materials and professional development opportunities through a nationwide network of environmental education leaders, including dedicated champions like Renee. SFI is pleased to announce Matthew Reddy as the new Chief Executive Officer. Matthew brings more than two decades of executive leadership experience spanning sustainable forestry, conservation, climate and biodiversity initiatives, commodity certification systems, and public-private partnerships. His global perspective and executive leadership experience have prepared him to lead SFI into the next chapter.

We applaud the great work of America’s Longleaf and are pleased to share their 2025 Accomplishment Report, detailing successes in conservation work across the Southeast.

The report highlights significant conservation achievements made possible through partnership, including the establishment of nearly 93,000 acres of new longleaf pine habitat, the implementation of prescribed fire on 1.5 million acres, and the protection of more than 80,000 acres of land.

Demonstrating the power of collaboration, private landowners accounted for 63% of the longleaf tree planting acres. The successes of America’s Longleaf are delivering meaningful positive outcomes for local economies, national defense, rare species, recreation, forest health, wildfire risk, and clean air and water.

SFI is proud to work alongside partners committed to supporting resilient forests and the communities that depend on them.

America’s Longleaf partners established nearly 93,000 acres of new longleaf pine in 2025, with 63% on private lands and a record 12,707 acres gained from silviculture. Even in a tough seed year, partners rallied and a record 34,000 bushels of pine cones were collected to support future planting.

Hands-on learning, career exploration, and a connection to the land came together at the Yakama Nation Tribal Forestry Youth Camp this summer. 🌳 Nadine Block, SFI Senior VP of Network Initiatives had the opportunity to join students, educators, and forestry professionals for a day of learning and discovery.

This camp, which began in 2024, encourages Tribal and non-Tribal youth around the Yakama Reservation to explore careers in forestry, wildland fire, and natural resource management. Youth gained hands-on experience in seed collecting, tree planting, thinning, forest monitoring, tree identification, and other forestry practices while learning directly from natural resource professionals. Project Learning Tree activities also helped connect students with practical, place-based environmental education experiences.

This year's camp was supported through partnership with SFI, the Washington State SFI Implementation Committee, and SFI-certified organizations Port Blakely and American Forest Management, Inc.

We're grateful to the Yakama Nation Forestry team and camp leaders for creating opportunities that help inspire the next generation of forest and conservation professionals.
