The AGOA CSO Network Secretariat has appointed Alhaji Sheriff Balogun, the 20th National President of the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC), to the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Civil Society Organization (CSO) Advisory Board. This selection highlights his leadership, private-sector experience, and commitment to strengthening U.S.–Africa trade relations. Alhaji Balogun’s role will be vital as the AGOA CSO Network seeks to modernize AGOA and advocate for its long-term reauthorization by the U.S. Congress.
On the Advisory Board, he will help foster policy dialogue, promote private-sector engagement, and support initiatives that enhance trade and investment between the United States, Nigeria, and sub-Saharan Africa. The Secretariat believes his expertise will be essential as AGOA adapts to a changing global economy and congratulates him on his appointment, anticipating a positive impact from his leadership. The extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act through December 31, 2028, is a significant milestone for Africa's economic landscape, allowing continued duty-free access for thousands of African products. In 2024 alone, Africa's AGOA exports exceeded US$30 billion, showcasing impressive growth in sectors like apparel, agriculture, minerals, and automotive components. However, this renewal underscores the urgent need for a collaborative effort to modernize AGOA.
The AGOA Civil Society Organization Network calls on civil society, private-sector leaders, and government stakeholders to unite and prioritize AGOA modernization discussions at AfrICANDO 2026.
Together, we can secure a prosperous future for Africa's trade. Register today for AfrICANDO 2026 in Umuahia
