One of the best things about living in Vermont is our foliage season! 🍁

Every fall, the leaves change from green to shades of red, orange, and yellow. When you’re surrounded by mountains, those colors seem to go on forever. We call it “leaf peeping,” and people travel from all over just to see it!

Today I had the honor of attending White Cane Awareness Day and celebrating 100 years of the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired! 🤍

We honored Anne Connolly, a blind educator and advocate who helped expand services for blind Vermonters across the state. She was Vermont’s first white cane user and helped introduce trained guide dogs to our community. Her work continues to make a difference generations later.

As Miss Black USA, I also want to bring attention to how blindness and vision loss impact the Black community. Black Americans face higher risks of eye diseases like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, making education, early detection, and access to eye care so important.

I’m grateful to VABVI for welcoming me, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to spread awareness, share resources, and support the independence of people who are blind or visually impaired. There is so much we can learn from one another, and I’m excited to keep showing up! ❤️

Okay, this pageant season has been a LOT, in the best way. 👑

Black queens are showing up everywhere:

On national stages.
Making history.
As scholars.
As daughters, wives, mothers.

And a cause attached to their crowns.

The Washington Informer connected the dots in a new piece by Jada Ingleton, and it traces this energy straight back to 1986, when Founder Karen Arrington started Miss Black USA. 🥹

A few fun facts about our girls: 80% are in grad or professional school. Miss Black USA 2021 Myja Gary won with her natural curls and came back this summer to coach.

And our queen, Miss Black USA 2026 Harmony Edosomwan, took the crown celebrating her Nigerian roots. She’s the second Nigerian American to win, following Nollywood actor and humanitarian Osas Ighodaro. 🇳🇬

I had an amazing experience this weekend supporting Oscar nominee Djimon Houndou’s Foundation. 👑

RUN RICHMOND 16.19, is a cultural run-or-walk experience where participants engage with 400+ years of Black history in Richmond, Virginia, in the very places where this history unfolded. 🏃🏽‍♀️

It was an honor to be a part of such a significant event celebrating the power of unity in diversity.

Both of these industry heavyweights brought their unmatched expertise to our judges’ panel this year!
