🏠 Rebuilding Maryinka: A Student Collaboration Across Borders 🇺🇦
Students from the Ohio State University and Pryazovsky State Technical University, City of Mariupol (relocated to Dnipro), have worked together to develop a sustainable recovery framework for Maryinka, a city in Donetsk Oblast that was completely destroyed in war.
Led by Dr. Gala Korniyenko and Dr. Oleksandra Pantiukhina, the team focused on land use, environmental restoration, and memorialization. Their research was informed by Ukrainian planning documents, environmental analysis, and international examples of post-conflict recovery.
The project concluded with a presentation at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, D.C., where students shared their work with Ambassador Oksana Markarova and officials from both the U.S. and Ukraine.
This collaboration was supported by several institutions, including APA’s Ukraine Rebuilding Action Group (URAG) and the U.S. State Department’s Diplomacy Lab.
