forestproud

forestproud is a program amplifying the impact of forests for people, products, and planet. We Speak Forests. Forests can't speak for themselves.

But we can.

is a communications and outreach program of the Society of American Foresters. We are a platform and community connecting people to the stories of forests, the products they provide, and the communities who care for them. From sustainable forest management to innovative forest products, we highlight how forests shape our lives, support communities, and contribute to a hea

lthier future. Through stories, films, and resources, we amplify the connections between people, products, and planet. Showing that when forests thrive, we all thrive. Join the community to explore careers, share stories, and discover the many ways people are working together to keep forests as forests, for today and for generations to come.

In California’s Mendocino National Forest, mobile pyrolysis systems are turning woody debris from wildfire mitigation into biochar. Earth Foundries upcycles forest materials that would otherwise go to waste, creating a valuable fuel source.

The future of wildfire mitigation is driven by innovative wood solutions and community resilience.

🌱 Curious how it works? Watch our Fire-Forged Innovations film to see how Earth Foundries is turning waste into value: https://youtu.be/S16DIBjP8KM

Wood innovation is creating benefits far beyond the forest.

Bioenergy facilities support local jobs for operators, foresters, truck drivers, and contractors while also helping land managers remove excess biomass from forests. That work supports healthier landscapes and can help reduce wildfire risk around communities.

When forests are managed actively, communities, ecosystems, and local economies all benefit.

Forests are more than what we see on the surface. 🌲💧🦌

's new collaborative blog with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources explores how Minnesota’s forests are vital for clean water, wildlife, recreation, and the economy. Keeping them healthy requires intentional forest management.

We are excited to share the release of our third Wood Innovations film, Fire-Forged Innovations!

Produced with our partners - the American Biochar Institute, Earth Foundries, Inc., Pacific Biochar, West Biofuels - Hat Creek Bioenergy, and the U.S. Forest Service Wood Innovations Program - this film explores how wood innovation and biochar are transforming wildfire mitigation and recovery efforts across the West.

Watch now to see how biochar is putting forest management into action:

the Hat Creek Bioenergy Facility generates about three megawatts of electricity? Roughly the amount needed to power the nearby town of Burney, California. Having a local energy source also helps communities become more resilient during outages and wildfire-related shutdowns.

The journey from forest to electricity starts with forest management.

Projects that thin dense forests or restore landscapes after wildfire often create leftover woody material like small trees, limbs, and brush. Instead of leaving it behind, that biomass can be chipped and transported to bioenergy facilities.

There it becomes a source of reliable electricity for nearby communities.

What was once considered waste can now help power homes and support forest management.
