🌿 TAKE ACTION: A pair of bills are pending, HF 78 and HF 72, to eliminate jail time for minor ma*****na offenders. Under current law, the possession of personal use quantities of ma*****na is punishable by up to six months incarceration and a $1,000 fine — even for first-time offenders. Low-level ma*****na possession offenders, many of them young people, should not face jail time and the lifelong penalties and stigma associated with it. Urge your lawmakers to support HF 78 and HF 72 with a few quick clicks.

Both bills eliminate jail time and reduce the fine from a $1,000 maximum penalty to a fixed fine of $500. NORML maintains that this fine should be reduced further.

🌿 TAKE ACTION: Legislation, SF 46, is pending to double the amount of licensed dispensaries authorized to provide state-authorized medical products. Adding more establishments will increase patients’ ease of access to these products and likely result in lower prices. Urge your lawmakers to support this measure with a few quick clicks.

HSB 684 will double the amount of licensed dispensaries authorized to provide state-authorized medical cannabis products.

🌿 TAKE ACTION: HF 105 would allow qualified patients access to a broader array of medical cannabis products, including botanical cannabis flower. Urge lawmakers to support this legislation with a few quick clicks.

💰 Botanical cannabis flower is far less expensive than non-herbal formulations, and access to currently permitted products is financially out of reach for many patients.

🚭 Limiting patients’ options to solely to non-botanical formulations, such as pills, tablets, tinctures, and gels, is not in patients' best interests. That’s because these products are slower-acting compared to vaporized herbal cannabis and their effects are far less predictable than those of botanical cannabis. This delayed onset and high degree of variability of drug effect makes it extremely difficult for patients to accurately self-regulate their dosing. As a result, many patients seeking rapid relief of symptoms such as pain, nausea, or spasticity are not best served by having their access limited solely to cannabis-infused pills and other non-herbal formulations.

✅ Over 15,000 Iowans are currently registered to access state-qualified cannabis products. Passage of HF 105 will reduce patients’ costs and also allow them for the first time to have access to fast-acting, vaporized preparations of botanical cannabis.

HF 105 allows qualified patients access to a broader array of medical cannabis products, including botanical cannabis flower.
