Working to close DC's opportunity gap with early childhood education since 2012.

Opened in 2012, Educare DC provides high quality early childhood education to over 375 children and their families, from pre-natal through Pre-K, across 2 Educare DC centers and 4 partner sites in Wards 7 and 8. Educare DC is a Head Start program, combining federal funding, local Pre-K and childcare subsidy funds, and private philanthropic dollars to provide full-day, full-year comprehensive education, health, mental health, nutrition, and family engagement services. Educare DC aims to eliminate the opportunity gap for young children experiencing poverty and is part of a 25-school national network that advocates to make early childhood education more accessible and equitable.

At Educare DC, high-quality early learning means investing in our staff. Through monthly professional development training, we support our educators with tools and strategies for the classroom.

This month, after inspiring opening remarks from our President & CEO, the team participated in an all-day Conscious Discipline® training, exploring practical ways to support students' social-emotional development and help them learn to understand and regulate their emotions.

Our Child Care Partnership Family Engagement team recently joined partners at First Rock CDC and National Children's Center (NCC) to host Sickle Cell Awareness Walks, bringing visibility to sickle cell disease in the community.

Children, families, and staff participated in the walks, creating a meaningful opportunity to promote awareness, show support, and stand together with community members impacted by sickle cell disease.

Through the Early Educator Fellowship, Educare DC brings together aspiring leaders from across DC’s early childhood workforce. From public schools to home-based centers, fellows take part in monthly workshops and career-building opportunities designed to strengthen their skills, grow their confidence, and support their success in the classroom.

Our staff is returning refueled and ready to take on the new school year. Before students arrive in our classrooms, our staff take part in two weeks of pre-service.

This year's preservice kicked off with a wellness day, where we poured into our staff who rotated between team building activities, financial planning lessons, cooking demonstrations, yoga classes, and massage sessions. At Educare DC, we know that excellence in everything starts with well-trained and well-supported staff.
