Vicente (1920-2009) and Anna Ferrer (1947) founded Rural Development Trust, better known as RDT, in 1969, establishing its headquarters in Anantapur, in the Rayalaseema Region of Andhra Pradesh as a non-governmental organization registered under the Indian Registration Act of 1908. Since then, RDT-Vicente Ferrer India has implemented comprehensive development programs for marginalized and underprivileged communities and people with disabilities.

On the occasion of World Tribal Day, our implementing partner in India, Rural Development Trust (RDT), signed an MoU with the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Srisailam in Vijayawada to support housing and livelihood opportunities for the Chenchu community, in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

Through this partnership, RDT will support the construction of 235 houses across six villages, helping families gain access to safe and secure homes. The initiative will also create livelihood opportunities for 63 women, supporting greater economic independence and security.

Through its Habitat Programme, RDT continues to work alongside rural and tribal families to strengthen access to safe housing, basic infrastructure, and sustainable livelihoods, contributing to greater dignity, security, and resilience for a more sustainable future.

When water returns, opportunity follows.

For years, families in Papampalli, a drought prone village in rural India, depended on a single rainfed crop. Limited water availability affected agriculture, household incomes and long term livelihood security.

Today, the village tells a different story.

Through the work of Vicente Ferrer Foundation's implementing partner, Rural Development Trust (RDT), water conservation measures have restored groundwater, brought 361.20 acres of land back under cultivation, and supported 116 functional borewells. These improvements are benefiting 1,148 people through better farming opportunities, diversified livelihoods and greater water security.

Venkatalakshmi has witnessed this transformation firsthand. Land that once supported only a single crop now produces vegetables, fruit trees and multiple seasonal crops, providing her family with a more stable income and the confidence to plan for the future.

Papampalli demonstrates how investing in water conservation and natural resource management can strengthen agriculture, improve livelihoods, and help rural communities become more resilient to changing climate conditions.

On April 9, communities across the regions where VFF works came together as part of India For India.
India For India is a people’s initiative and a powerful example of transformation from within. It reflects the strength of collective action and community-led development, enabling people to become active participants in shaping their own futures.
This year, over 1,60,000 people across 2000+ villages in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana took part by opening more than 1,10,000 hundies filled through months of small, consistent savings.
What may seem modest at an individual level becomes something far more powerful when it comes together supporting education, health, and livelihoods.
What makes this initiative truly inspiring is its simplicity: change does not always come from outside. It can begin within communities themselves and grow through shared responsibility.
