The Alpha Omicron chapter supports the commemoration and honoring of African American cemeteries in Washington, DC. African American cemeteries constitute significant and often at-risk repositories of historical, cultural, and communal memory. Originating from the necessity for dignified and segregated burial grounds during periods of enslavement and discrimination, these cemeteries play an essential role in honoring ancestors, fostering social cohesion, sustaining spiritual traditions, and preserving narratives of Black life, perseverance, and identity. This event is free and open to the public. See flyer details below.
