42,000 maternal deaths. 500,000 fetal and newborn deaths. Every year.
All linked to high blood pressure complications during pregnancy.

What makes these numbers particularly troubling? We already know how to prevent and manage many of these complications.

A blood pressure check. A simple daily aspirin tablet for women at risk. Essential medicines. Timely referral and emergency care.

Yet for millions of women, particularly those living in conflict-affected and underserved communities, these interventions remain out of reach.

This week marks an important step forward.

The launch of the new Global Roadmap for Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy 2026–2035 and Beyond (link), developed through a WHO-led process, brings researchers, governments, healthcare providers, innovators and advocates together around a shared agenda.

The Every Pregnancy coalition of 80+ locally rooted, faith-inspired organizations is a key role in connecting global evidence and innovation with the realities of healthcare delivery, mobilizing new resources, and ensuring that communities shape the solutions intended for them.

Together with Prof. Hadiza Galadanci, Dr. Sidrah Nausheen, Hannah King and Mukhtar Karim, we explore what this roadmap means and, more importantly, what it will take to turn global ambition into better care for mothers and newborns everywhere.

During Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we recognize the critical interventions that can make the difference between life and loss for mothers and their babies.

A timely ultrasound, a skilled midwife identifying early warning signs, or access to treatment before a complication becomes life-threatening can change the course of a pregnancy. These interventions may go unseen, but their impact can be profound.

Many stillbirths and newborn deaths are preventable with proven, evidence-based solutions and the healthcare tools available today. The challenge is ensuring these interventions reach every mother, regardless of where she lives.

Through our global Coalition, we work to mobilize resources, strengthen frontline health systems, and expand access to lifesaving maternal and newborn health services.

Because every mother deserves the chance for a safe pregnancy, and every baby deserves the best possible start in life.

Our Founder & CEO, Isra Chaker, will be back in Chicago this weekend for MedGlobal’s Conference centered on the theme Collaboration for Good.

She's had the privilege of attending every MedGlobal conference since its inception years ago, and it remains one of the most inspiring and meaningful gatherings we're part of. There’s something special about returning to a community committed to turning collaboration into real impact.

A mother should never have to wonder whether she will survive giving birth.

Yet for far too many women in Nigeria, pregnancy comes with that fear.

After nearly three decades as an obstetrician, Professor Hadiza Galadanci, Director of , is challenging society with an uncomfortable question: If we know why mothers die, and we know how to save them, why are we still losing them?

For Professor Hadiza, this goes beyond medicine. It raises a deeper question about how much society truly values women’s lives and whether that value is reflected in the care mothers receive.

A miscarriage in Gaza is rarely just a medical event. For mothers experiencing pregnancy in Gaza, even basic maternal care can be difficult to reach. Hospitals, medicines, supplies and referral systems have been severely disrupted, making pregnancy and childbirth more dangerous at the very moment mothers need reliable care most.

And still, mothers in Gaza are being met with care. 🤎

Our coalition partners on the ground are running mobile health units and makeshift clinics to reach mothers where access to care has been disrupted. They are getting midwives and health workers to mothers who cannot travel, delivering prenatal and postnatal care so that no mother has to face pregnancy alone.

Every one of these visits, every safe delivery, every mother who receives the care she needs, is proof that even in the most difficult circumstances, lifesaving maternal care can still reach her. Our Coalition believes that a mother in Gaza deserves the same chance at a safe pregnancy as a mother anywhere else in the world, and our partners are making that belief a reality, every single day.

Six devices. Ten trained healthcare workers. Thousands of newborns who could benefit. 💛

At Kwimba Hospital in Tanzania, more than 18,000 babies are born each year, and approximately 1,300 newborns receive care through its Newborn Care Unit. For babies born too soon or struggling to breathe, access to the right respiratory support can be critical.

With funding from Collective Continuum, Every Pregnancy partnered with the DMF Official Foundation Page © to provide 6 Vayu bCPAP devices to Kwimba Hospital, bringing proven, life-saving technology directly to frontline newborn care.

Designed for low-resource settings, Vayu bCPAP is cost-effective, easy to operate and maintain, and requires no electricity. Together, these features help make respiratory support more accessible in settings where resources are limited.

And the investment goes beyond equipment. 10 healthcare workers completed an intensive three-day Training of Trainers program, building the local expertise needed to use the devices effectively and share that knowledge with others.

What makes Kwimba’s Newborn Care Unit particularly powerful is how it was designed: with the local community and around the needs of newborns and their families. As this model expands to more facilities, we want bCPAP to be an integral part of every new unit. This will combine community-led care with the tools needed to help newborns breathe.

This reflects what is possible when funding, trusted partners, proven solutions, and local expertise come together to make care more accessible and help make pregnancies and childbirth safer.

When sat down with us for Born Into, he brought with him the voices of the people he spent months caring for on the ground in Gaza.

As a Palestinian-American emergency physician from Chicago, Dr. Ahmad has dedicated his life to trauma and urgent care. But during his medical missions to Gaza, working in overwhelmed emergency rooms alongside exhausted local healthcare workers, he witnessed firsthand what happens to the most vulnerable when health systems collapse, especially mothers in labor and newborn infants who depend on those hospital walls for survival.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Ahmad for joining us on the podcast to share his story, his journey as a physician, and his unwavering advocacy for maternal and newborn care when it is needed most.

At UNGA81, the Every Pregnancy Coalition brought together experts and implementers to examine a persistent challenge: a health solution can be proven, funded, approved, and distributed - and still fail to reach the mothers who need it.

Four lessons stood out:

• Design innovations with the people who will use them.

• Build training and service integration into delivery from the start.

• Invest in the system surrounding the solution, from health workers and supplies to referral pathways.

• Treat trust as essential infrastructure for care.

No single organization or sector can solve these challenges alone. Getting lifesaving solutions to mothers requires governments, the private sector, funders, humanitarian and health organizations, and communities to work across the full journey: from innovation and financing to delivery and care.

That is the collaboration we need to turn proven solutions into better outcomes for mothers and newborns.
