New Baptist Covenant Anchored in Luke 4:18-19, NBC pursues collective action that reconciles our Baptist family and transforms the communities where we live.

We are Baptists from different racial, ethnic, theological and geographic backgrounds who have gathered to work side by side to care for the world that God so loved. We believe Baptists have been called to champion the vulnerable, to honor the diverse workings of the Holy Spirit, and, above all, to share the love of Christ with a hurting world.

One of Howard Thurman’s most important books is "Jesus and the Disinherited". He had proposed to publisher Abington-Cokesbury that a better title for this book would have been The Religion of Jesus and the Disinherited because the publisher’s title collapsed the distinction, crucial for Thurman’s argument, between organized Christianity and the religion of Jesus. For Thurman, “Whenever Jesus’ spirit appears, the oppressed gather fresh courage; for he announced the good news that fear, hypocrisy, and hatred, the three hounds of hell that track the trail of the disinherited need have no dominion over them.”

In this second of three messages, Aidsand Wright-Riggins addresses the role that hypocrisy and deception play in the lives of those ‘living with their backs against the wall’ and how integrity is the only way to burst the bonds of oppression.
