Nurses advocate to stop the closure of essential maternal healthcare.

MedStar Washington Hospital Center nurses are speaking out against plans to close an entire postpartum unit, eliminating 11 maternal health beds, and reducing access to care for birthing families across the District.

These proposed cuts would disproportionately impact communities already facing the greatest barriers to care, including low-income families, immigrants, and communities of color, who continue to experience the highest rates of maternal mortality and severe maternal health complications.

At a time when maternal mortality remains a public health crisis, our healthcare systems should be expanding access to high-quality, culturally responsive care—not reducing it.

Every family deserves access to safe postpartum care and the support they need to thrive.

Did you know these facts about period products? 👀

Most of us grew up using these common pads and tampons, without ever being taught to ask what was actually in them.

This Menstrual Hygiene Day, we’re talking about menstrual justice because period care is about more than getting through your cycle. It’s access to safe products, honest education, and informed choices for every body.

Many traditional period products may contain fragrances, plastics, dyes, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). And with billions of products ending up in landfills every year, the impact is personal and environmental.

From menstrual cups and discs to period underwear and organic alternatives, everyone deserves period care that feels safe, supportive, and accessible.

It’s World Preeclampsia Day.

Whether you’re pregnant, newly postpartum, caring for a loved one, or simply wanting to stay informed, it can be hard to know what’s “normal” and what could be a serious warning sign during pregnancy and after birth.

Preeclampsia is more than high blood pressure.

It’s a systemic condition that can affect multiple organs, including the kidneys, liver, and brain. Beyond the immediate risks, it can have lasting effects on postpartum recovery, long-term cardiovascular health, and infant feeding.

Symptoms can appear suddenly and without warning, even after a healthy pregnancy or delivery.

If something doesn’t feel right:
Ask questions.
Speak up.
Get checked early.
