The dismantling of USAID and global reductions in international development assistance, the sustained global assault on freedom of association and expression, rising authoritarianism and the impacts of AI are among the factors that will challenge and shape the democracy, human rights and governance sector for years to come. Within this uncertain context, what are emerging priorities and are there new opportunities in the sector? What does thought leadership look like? This hybrid listening session and discussion with SID-US members will solicit feedback and ideas to shape the DRG working group in the coming year.

💲 As donor priorities shift, traditional development assistance declines, and geopolitical and economic realities evolve, organizations across sectors are reconsidering how development outcomes are achieved—and where the private sector fits into that changing landscape.

On September 15, join SID-US for a timely discussion bringing together corporate leaders and development practitioners to explore the evolving role of business in development. Moderated by Anna Gerrard, MBA, LLB, PMP and Monika Gorzelanska, we will hear from Josh Mandell (IBM Consulting), James Richardson (USGLC), and Joe Tayag (Project Last Mile / Coca-Cola).

The conversation will examine where corporations can create meaningful impact, the opportunities and challenges they face as investors, employers, innovators, service providers, and partners, and how organizations can balance commercial objectives with development goals while remaining grounded in their mission and purpose.

📣 THIS MONTH: Join SID-US and USTDA for a special workshop exploring how the international development community can engage with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

USTDA plays a unique role in the U.S. foreign assistance and economic engagement toolkit, helping emerging markets turn promising infrastructure ideas into bankable, finance-ready projects. Its work spans sectors critical to development and long-term U.S. strategic interests, including energy, digital connectivity, transportation, and critical minerals.

During this workshop, USTDA will provide SID-US members with practical insights into the agency’s approach, priorities, and opportunities for engagement.

🚀 Ready to build your experience in international development?
Applications are now open for the Fall 2026 SID-US Program Associate Internship! From September through December, interns work alongside the SID-US team, gaining hands-on experience in programs, communications, events, and member engagement while expanding their professional network across the international development community.

Join us for a virtual session on Monday, July 20, where attendees will learn how the dismantling of USAID impacted conservation and climate programs and how the Reimagining Conservation initiative is meeting the moment by building a broad coalition to rethink how the U.S. can reengage globally on conservation.
