Today, March 10th, Healthy Schools Network, received an email from ED.gov notifying us that fifteen (15) of our conference reports and guides, which we had been invited to share with Ed.gov, are being removed from the Education Department's ERIC (Ed Research and Info) library site.

Wildfires can impact populations, including children, in many ways. Understanding the risks and health effects of wildfires, having up-to-date status of wildfire exposure and air quality, and outlining actions that can help to decrease the impact of these events can help families and communities protect their health.

The Subcommittee on Climate, Emergencies, and Disasters of the President’s Task Force on Environmental Health Risks and Safety Risks to Children has compiled this list of publicly available wildfire and health resources to assist families and communities in protecting children’s health during and after such events.

Healthy Schools Network thanks NYS Governor Hochul for signing the Extreme Heat in Schools bill. High heat disrupts thinking, learning, and attention, and lowers test scores. It can also be very dangerous to children and personnel with health conditions.

We urge the NYS Health Dept to develop and issue statewide guidance for a local schools to adopt and follow.

Governor Hochul signed legislation to require that all school districts develop plans to mitigate extreme heat in classrooms.
