AQUA DC AQUA DC participates in a variety of community initiatives involving awareness, advocacy and community building. linktr.ee/aquadc https://linktr.ee/aquadc

We host monthly socials and support group sessions, holiday events, seasonal sports teams, issue-based organizing and more! AQUA is a volunteer organization that focuses on building community for q***r and trans API residents in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area, which utilizes its location in the nation’s capital to help uplift voices and advocate for social justice issues through an LGBT

Q+ and API lens. AQUA strives to incorporate the following values intentionally through our collective actions as an organization to center our Membership: Education, Visibility, Equity & Inclusivity, and Wellbeing. We aim to support our mission by providing opportunities for social and political advocacy, coalition building, cultural exploration, and developmental enrichment. AQUA's goals are to:
• Provide a safe and supportive space for trans and q***r API individuals to discuss the issues impacting their lives.
• Raise the visibility of QAPI people by tackling issues of race in the q***r communities and homophobia in API communities.
• Engage in campaigns that advocate for our communities on issues such as (but not limited to) immigration, sexual racism and trans exclusion. To learn about these events and more, visit our website at https://www.aquadc.org/

Join us on Saturday, July 12th at 9am for an approximately 2hr hike through the Eagle Spur/Dogue/Bayview Trail at Mason Neck State Park! It’s one of my favorite parks in the area, and also a wildlife preservation!

Please be advised that there is a $10 vehicle entry fee to enter the park. Carpool spreadsheet/sign up sheet in bio.

The park is not metro accessible, but again, there are carpooling options via the sign up link in our bio! Join our Discord to stay in the loop/communicate about the hike as needed!

🖤❤️💚

June 19, 1865 is when the last enslaved Black Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, over two years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is a celebration of Black liberation, resilience, and joy. It’s also a poignant reminder that freedom delayed is freedom denied. As a Q***r and Trans Asian and Pasifika community, AQUA DC recognizes that our liberation is interconnected. We honor Black leaders, organizers, artists, LGBTQ+ trailblazers, and allies whose courageous work continues to inspire
the journey toward true justice and lasting peace.

AQUA DC stands in solidarity with Black people today and every day.

None of us are free until all of us are free.

June 11th is King Kamehameha Day. AQUA DC is honored to continue its participation with this year’s King Kamehameha Lei Draping Ceremony, the only of its kind outside of the Hawaiian islands.

King Kamehameha’s final words are: “E ‘oni wale nō ‘oukou i ku’u pono ‘a’oke pau.” This translates to, “continue the good work, for it is not yet finished.”

As the only explicitly LGBTQ+ organization in the Lei Draping Ceremony, AQUA DC takes these words to heart. The responsibility of caring for our vast multicultural community is the foundation of AQUA DC’s work. It was a full-circle moment to have the delegation led by several former AQUA DC co-chairs, including Ben DeGuzman, Director, DC Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, Bianca Sprague, Director, TransPride Washington DC, and Immediate Past Co-Chai, Jami Vallesteros.
