REGARDING THE RESIGNATION OF DEANS
IN TURKISH HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM

TASSA Board of Directors is very concerned about the events surrounding the Turkish Universities and the resignations of the Deans. These are very unusual times and conditions for Turkey; however, we are deeply worried about the long-term adverse impact that recent events might have on higher education, academic freedom, and scientific advancement in Turkey.
The Council of Higher Education has issued a press release to explain the necessity of the drastic steps that were taken:

http://www.yok.gov.tr/web/guest/regarding-the-resignation-of-deans-in-turkish-higher-education-system

We hope that normalcy is achieved very soon and that the Deans are reinstated as the press release underscores.
We also urge the leaders of Turkey to seize this opportunity to elevate democracy and
academic freedom in Turkey.

TASSA Board of Directors

Due to the unfair criticism of international public statements regarding the imposed resignation of 1577 university deans, we have noticed that a statement is needed to clarify misunderstandings.
