FORE! Emilys loved the opportunity to support our State Regent by participating in a mini golf competition fundraiser for her state project. Shout out to member Meredith for her hole-in-one and HODAR extraordinaire Erik for his TWO holes-in-one and winning first place in the putt putt competition! Did we mention this miniature golf course is the oldest in the world? History AND service - what could be better!

This morning, our chapter’s Vice Regent (and one of our favorite Cheese Heads!), Brenda, welcomed seventy veterans from Madison, WI, to Washington, DC. It is always a treat to greet Honor Flight passengers and show our gratitude to our nation’s armed services and veterans!

The Emily Nelson chapter is proud to continue our support of the Dunbar Hugh School JROTC program in the District by awarding Bronze JROTC medals and an annual $500.00 scholarship for a Senior Cadet. We’re so amazed by the young men and women in our community and their love of country and service!

Last night, Emilys attended a production of 1776 - a musical about the formation and signing of the Declaration of Independence. Coincidentally, today is the 250th anniversary of the decision of the Fifth Virginia Convention to instruct its delegates to motion for independence - a major turning point in the musical and in the American Revolution!

This past Saturday, Emilys attended the Second Annual DCDAR USS District of Columbia Committee Tea in honor of the USS District of Columbia, the first U.S. Navy vessel to be named for the District and the lead boat in the upcoming Columbia Class of ballistic missile submarines. The committee is working on a project to commission a set of presentation silver, a time-honored U.S. naval tradition, to go aboard the submarine for the life of its service. We are honored to play a small role in this lasting legacy and are grateful for the opportunity to support our submariners! Shout-out to Emily Nelson members Mary, Jacqueline, and Neale for all their hard work carrying out this wonderful event.

An incredible to DCDAR’s State Conference last month! We came together to celebrate our Emilys in high style, including Chapter OJ Neale Grisham, Chapter Regent Mary Mortimer on a fabulous year, sending off Jacqueline Leahy & Rachel Norman as 2024-2026 State Officers, and cheering on Meredith Pryce as she was sworn in as a 2026-2028 State Officer! Shout out to ALL the Emilys that stepped up to Page and help our State Conference run smoothly! Our Emilys gave meaningful reports, awards, and presentations and we loved spending so much time together! Huzzah Emilys!

Emilys (and several associates!), along with Daughters from across the country, were delighted to take part in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in recognition of the National Society’s $2 million gift to the Cherry Tree Endowment, which will ensure the stewardship and care of the beloved national symbol for generations to come. It was especially fitting that the parade’s theme this year was Red, White, and Bloom – a nod to our country’s semiquincentennial!
