American Councils strengthens international ties and mutual understanding through excellence in academic, professional and cultural exchange, language acquisition, educational development, and research.

This March, we were pleased to welcome a group of 17 law-enforcement officials from across Eurasia to connect with their American counterparts on the topic of Combatting Transnational Crime.

In Washington, D.C., Raleigh, Charlotte, and El Paso, visitors learned about the role of federal-level and state-level prosecutorial authorities in combatting transnational crime, as well as the importance of interagency collaboration and private sector partnership. In Charleston, Cleveland and Tulsa visitors had the opportunity to participate in ride-alongs with local police departments, providing the visitors with a unique experience in the day-to-day work of American police officers.

This December, university leaders and senior education officials from Ukraine participated in an exchange to explore U.S. strategies for aligning educational programs with evolving labor market demands..

The program began in DC, where participants were welcomed by Robert Post, Director of the Office of International Visitors and U.S. Speaker Program, and received an introduction to the American education landscape.

Subsequent meetings in Cincinnati, Providence, and Boston focused on themes ranging from reskilling adults to industry-academia partnerships to experiential learning. By demonstrating American expertise on this topic and facilitating the sharing of best practices, this program supported recovery and stability in Ukraine’s education system and workforce.

Outside of meetings, participants learned about U.S. history and culture and braved the winter chill to explore the historic Breakers mansion ❄️
