Founded in 2008, the Georgetown Summer Fellows Program offers undergraduates with an opportunity to enhance their Georgetown experience by providing housing accommodations for 10 weeks while students work an unpaid summer internship in the DC area. The program sponsors activities throughout the summer, including networking opportunities with alumni, off-campus social events, service opportunities and professional development seminars.

SUMMER FELLOWS SPOTLIGHT SERIES: Luis Rosales is a rising junior in the McDonough School of Business studying finance. He is originally from El Salvador and moved to Maryland at the age of nine. After high school, he attended a community college in Rockville, Maryland. He obtained his associate’s degree and transferred to Georgetown during the Fall 2016 semester. Through his experiences as an immigrant and at community college, he found his passion for business and its potential for social impact. This summer he will be interning at the University’s investment office where he will assist in managing Georgetown’s endowment and will also be teaching financial literacy to students in the DMV area.

SUMMER FELLOWS SPOTLIGHT SERIES: Sierra Campbell is a rising senior in the College majoring in Women's and Gender Studies and Psychology. On campus, she works at the LGBTQ Resource Center, is on the board of Active Minds, and plays percussion in the Pep Band. Sierra is especially interested in issues of intersectional feminism, mental health advocacy, and prison abolition and reform and hopes to pursue these interests through a future career in law or policy. This summer, Sierra will be working with Advocates for Youth as a communications intern where she will help advocate for policies and programs that strive for sexual health equity for all youth. She is originally from York, Pennsylvania.

We loved hearing about their perspectives on creating change and being successful in America's political climate. Thank you to them for being honest about their backgrounds and advice, and for being so invested in our futures moving forward.

SUMMER FELLOWS SPOTLIGHT SERIES: Habon Ali is a rising senior in the School of Foreign Service majoring in Regional and Comparative Studies with a concentration in the Middle East and Africa. As a refugee from Kenya, she was inspired to study economic development and poverty reduction through women’s empowerment and girls education. This summer, she will be working at the Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership as an office assistant. She will be helping with the executive certificate programs by compiling information for the courses. She is extremely interested in nonprofit leadership training and is excited to be involved in the many programs that she will be helping to develop this summer. On campus, she is involved in the Muslim Students Association and student government.

SUMMER FELLOWS SPOTLIGHT SERIES: Joseph Babin is a rising senior in the School of Foreign Service majoring in Culture and Politics with a minor in Portuguese. He was born in Saint Paul, MN but lived in Georgetown, Texas for thirteen years. Growing up in a Hispanic household helped shape him into the individual he is today, specifically in how his Spanish language abilities helped him to become a coordinator for the DC Schools Project. He was also awarded the “Improving the Human Condition” grant to do research in Brazil, and to travel to South Africa, Brazil, and India with his study abroad program. This summer, he is excited to work as an intern in the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development at the Organization of American States. His internship responsibilities include participating in meetings with foreign government officials, drafting reports and communications, and supporting events such as meetings and conferences.

Thank you to Rabbi Rachel and Professor David Ebenbach for having dinner with the Summer Fellows! We had a fruitful discussion on how to gain tools to incorporate reflective practices into our daily lives. They expanded the conversation beyond professional development and built on how we can consciously think about having a greater impact becoming better versions of ourselves. We appreciate their continued support of the Summer Fellows Program and GSP!

The Summer Fellows had a great picnic at the National Arboretum on Saturday! We saw the old columns from the Capitol building, and explored the Bonsai gardens. Thanks to all of our donors who make this holistic summer experience possible!

Thank you to Kamar Mack and Jessica Andino for having dinner with the Summer Fellows! We enjoyed hearing about Georgetown University Student Association - GUSA's plans for the next year, and hope to contribute to some of them. Also, thank you to GUSA for partnering with GSP this year to provide storage for the Fellows!
